Guest guest
Well, if for no other reason, if my recent sensitivities after having dental work can improve, I am all for it. I have been so disappointed about them seeming to be so painful, while when I went in for a check up I had no issues, other than a " funny weird feeling " in one area. Sigh. Or maybe try holding some water in your mouth and swishing it around and you'll see how you can swallow in your throat but keep the water in your mouth. Sorry, it's hard to explain. I don't know that 30 minutes is better than 20. It's just how long it takes me to shower and get ready and then I spit it out and brush my teeth. You do have to do it long enough for your saliva to mix with it and it will change consistency. You can feel when that happens and it won't be so oily anymore. Go to www.oilpulling.org and read a little about it. There's also a video on there you can watch. Some people have wonderful things happen for them. I'm pretty healthy so I don't see any huge things happening but like I said in my other post, I think it's helped my teeth and gums get stronger and less sensitive. Guest guest
Also, if you do other things while oil pulling (emails, getting ready for work, vacuuming, work on your taxes, read/study, etc.) like Carol does, rather than just watch the clock, the time goes by quickly. Some people on the internet say to not do anything else while oil pulling (I don't know if it's a meditative experience to them or what), but that's not necessary. Doing other things makes the time go by much faster. I think you'll find you can hold it much longer than you thought.Diane > > > > > > > >> > > > >> > > > >> Hi, > > > >> I've been doing oil pulling for about 7 months now. Guest guest
I am really embarrassed to admit this, but I tried it last night and again this morning--both times I couldn't keep the oil in my mouth an entire minute! I gag SOOOOO easily! I tried thinking of other things, I tried to tidy up the bathroom while I did it, etc., but just gagged! However, I am going to continue this--I really want it to work. But I feel like a little kid because I cannot keep it in my mouth very long! LOL! Heidi " I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one heck of a good time. Guest guest
Okay, I tried it with about a teaspoon this time, and I used Sesame oil. I had tried coconut oil first, and even though it was organic and virgin, it was quite sweet. Today I tried the sesame, and was able to keep it in a whole 1.5 minutes--even after a few gagging moments! LOL! I am concerned I may never be able to use sesame oil again, though, because of the negative experience. But I will keep trying. Thanks for the idea and the support! C ________________________________ From: " ransley@... We were frantic to stop the problem but extremely resistant to the dentist's adamant stance for her to use a prescription toothpaste that was heavily fluoridated. He's a good man, a good dentist, a good friend and a good neighbor. All 3 of our daughters babysat his children. We desired no fight with him but both of us were intractable on our positions of fluoride. He- it's " proven " ; Me- Not no but H*** no! The solution presented itself- we bought the toothpaste to keep him happy. She barely used it at all. Instead she did oil-pulling with cold pressed sesame oil. It worked, all cavities stopped. I knew it was the Lyme or co-infection that was causing it. My theory of how oil pulling works is this, and it's not magic, it's purely physical...It is cavitation of imploding bubbles that sucks the offending matter out from under the gums at the teeth. Light oil emulsions are better for this purpose that either water or oil by itself. When you mix a light oil with saliva, under pressure and the forced cavitation in effect by the violent swishing, you get a light emulsion. *Probably* a lot of the same effect can be had with a Water Pik. You get to choose which way you want it. I have a mouthful of crowns that trap food like a dungeon. Oil pulling won't get enough of it out and neither will any form of flossing or tooth-picking. I had to go back to a Water Pik to finally beat my sinus infections because of this. It's real simple- bacteria feed on that trapped food and a whole colony of pathogens develops under your gums and along the sides of your teeth into your sinuses. As for the Lyme, she beat it last year. Go to the testimonials page of www.nighthawkminerals.com. It's been a year with no sign of it. Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for your reply. I figured that was what you meant and that you were really referring to products that contain peroxide. It just wasn't clear due to the portion of Duncan's " demystified " message that was referenced that I felt it might not have been clear to some of our newer members. Best, Dee > > Dee, > > Coconut oil hardly kills good bacteria. In fact it is like mother's milk. Lauric and caprylic acids are contained in mother's milk. It is the capric acid which is not contained in mother's milk, but the amount in the vco is minimal. > > Take your vco, it won't hurt you. BTW, i know when my tummy is not in order, the moment i take vco, it kills the pathogen and go scooting to the bathroom in 15 minutes time. > > >
Guest guest
I am into my first week of oil pulling. I chose sunflower oil because Coconut oil is a bit heavy for me to keep in my mouth for 10 minutes. I did use coco oil the first time and that is when I decided to try another kind. Could have used MCT, but variety is the spice of life as the saying goes. Kind of liking it. I do it at night, then brush my teeth with my bentonite clay/ baking soda mixture and a quick rinse with a small amount of minty listerine and mouth feels extra clean.... Let you know how it does for me.. I am trying to avoid losing any more teeth and stop the gap forming between the gum and tooth. Just happening on 2 teeth right now. But I have a question... who decided 1 tablespoon was the amount you should use? I am using less right now but will increase if there is a reason I am not aware of for that amount. laura c
Guest guest
*What other oils can be used for oil pulling?* Dr Karach had suggested Sunflower Oil. Sesame Oil was prescribed in Ayurveda texts for oil pulling. Both oils worked well in curing health problems. Some found sesame oil better. Other oils have been used by some practitioners on their own and they did not report desirable results to enable me to recommend. Some other oils may be suitable for particular problems but I do not recommend for daily practice. The recommended oils to use are *Sunflower Oil* or *Sesame Oil*. Our experience with thousands of people across the globe says use *cold pressed *Sunflower or Sesame oil as first choice, if it is not available use * refined *Sunflower or Sesame Oil. We have observed that any oil other than Sunflower or Sesame may not be as effective. http://www.oilpulling.org/method-of-doing-oil-pulling/frequently-asked-questions\ -faq/ On Fri, Apr 13, 2012 at 9:38 PM, deborahbrenton <bdbrenton@...>wrote: > Anyone know why sesame oil, sunflower oil and coconut oil are the most > recommended oils to pull with? Guest guest
Yeah, I read that too, but I'm wondering how accessible other oils were to those Ayurveda people. Olive oil is Mediterranean, not Indian. The quote says there is research, but I guess I was hoping to see some stats or at least hear a testimonial. I suppose though, considering the health benefits of sesame oil, I shouldn't be surprised that Wilderness Family Naturals carries it. http://www.naturalimport.com/health_benefits_of_sesame_oil <http://www.naturalimport.com/health_benefits_of_sesame_oil> Deborah > > *What other oils can be used for oil pulling?* > > Dr Karach had suggested Sunflower Oil. I initially learned about oil pulling from Bruce Fife's book: http://www.amazon.com/Oil-Pulling-Therapy-Detoxifying-Cleansing/dp/0941599671 I found it at the library. Here is a great article by Bruce Fife on oil pulling: http://www.coconutresearchcenter.org/article%20oil%20pulling.htm Gail
