Guest guest
Hi, I went to school and worked as a Dental Assistant for 15 years and it included stints in an Orthodontic office and in a Pedotontic office. My own son ended up having full braces because of crowding of his teeth, but not until he was an early teenager. His teeth came in just like my husband's (who also had braces). My best friend had a daughter born the same time who wore an appliance made by their general dentist and she has beautiful teeth. If I remember correctly, she had a cross bite too. What I know is, some movement and correction of can be achieved with dental appliances by a general Dentist or by a Pedodontist who has further training in Ortho. It's really done a lot. If it were my child, I would start with a Pedodontist who knows Ortho If it does require more work he/she will tell you. The Pedo. I worked for had a lab right in his office where he made appliances for the easier cases. He also referred to orthodontists when the case was more severe. With a crowded upper jaw, don't be to disappointed if braces are in your child's future. BTW they use a dental cement, not glue to bond the brackets and bands, so not to worry if full braces are required. It's similar to a bonded (tooth colored) composite fillings. The biggest threat to teeth and the thing I saw repeatedly was decalcification along the gum line above the brackets from plaque sitting on the teeth. A water pick is great for that along with brushing. From what I know now, if you could get those kids to oil pull before brushing, that would help too. Good luck with that one though. Being natural health minded person (pretty rare in the Dental Biz), I read about Dr. Weston Price's work back in the 80's when I was I was in general dentistry. WP found with native populations that people had nice big jaws, round faces and straight teeth. After a couple generations of eating white flour and sugar, the jaws became smaller, the faces narrow and the teeth became crowded. He said it isn't as simple as saying " _____ has Daddy's big teeth in Mommy's little mouth. " (which is what I heard over and over when I worked for the orthodontist). It made me sad because I figured diet could have made more of a difference in my chiId, but that ship had already sailed when I became aware of how bad sugar is. Sigh. I also made the mistake of sharing this info with my boss and almost got my head bit off. ; ) Oops. On another note, Next month will be a year since I started oil pulling with C.O every single morning. I can't wait to show my Hygienist (and friend) how clean my mouth is. I am just amazed that something so cheap and easy can work as well as it does. I can't say enough good things about oil pulling. I haven't been able to convince one person besides myself to try it, but I'm an experiment of one that is a success story.
