I think how long you are in the hospital is a very individual thing. My surgery

wasn't a revision, so it was a shorter less complicated surgery. For once, it

isn't the insurance company, but my doc making that decision. After I was

discharged, I stayed in a motel near the hospital an additional night before I

made my five hour ride home. I was also discharged with an ice machine that

works off the car cigarette lighter, so I could ice on the long drive home. We

also stopped a few time for me to get out and walk. I feel great today and just

have to keep myself from overdoing.

Its the same here in France. I was in the hospital for eight days for my knee

replacement followed by three weeks for rehab. It was supposed to be as an in

patient but after a while they were persuaded to let me come every day and home

at night. So far I have had 23 physio appointments prescribed with an outside

physio too. Takes up quite a bit of time! Judith

Pat S.,

How long since your surgery? I had mine a week ago and am feeling very good and

walking with a walker. My surgeon's office called yesterday to check on me and

asked if I was still using the walker!! I don't feel stable enough yet to give

up the walker. Is there a big difference with people as to when they walk

unassisted? I had an anterior approach surgery. I start PT next Monday and hope

they therapist will help me judge what support I need.

Hello , I had my surgery 4 weeks ago, I started to walk with a walker

for about 2 weeks then I was able to start walking with my cane and then

half way though the 3 rd week till now I can walk pretty good with out a

cane and when I get tired I use my cane. I had the anterior approach also.

The therapist will help you with the support question, I think it depends on

you and how you feel with your hip I had home therapy for 2 days a week for

2 weeks then I started PT last week I only have 3 more visits left for PT

thanks to the dumb insurance I have. The excersizes they gave me to do is

really helping me I am glad I went to PT. How are you doing with walking

with the walker.

I just ordered a " sports " model since I live on two floors, and Medicare

only provides one walker..I think trying to haul it up and down stairs with

me would be counter productive. My problem is the parrots who will want to

ride on it..:).

I figure when I'm done with both hips I can donate it to the VA or some

place and someone else can use them.

Sounds good to me. I've got various things I keep in the freezer, hauled
