Guest guest
We've been trying to get started on potty training. It seems no matter when (what time of day) we put him on there nothing happens. He goes in his undies (reg or pullups) and doesn't seem to care when his pants are wet or dry or where to go. Plus I don't seem to be consistent in getting him on the potty. I had just read the potty training thread and was talking to 's therapist about some ideas to motivate him & reinforcers this morning. I was getting discouraged. Well, this morning I put on training undies at 9am. tried a couple times during his session, no luck. He was dry all the way through Rehab therapy until getting home around 3:30. Then around 4 he came out from hiding and his undies (this time having vinyl coated ones) were soaked. We I changed him and he ran off again, shutting the playroom door as if to hide. I went after him and asked him if he had to go poopy. After several attempts to get him to focus on my question finally, he nodded yes. Does he want to sit on the potty? Again a yes nod. I didn't put too much stock into this since he quite frequently nods yes only to run off after sitting for a couple seconds. So I sat him, he grabbed a book, and I brought in the tape player w/ the tank tape on. He shut the door at one point and got back on the potty. I checked on him a couple times and then I heard a yell from him. I went to check, opened the door, he was still sitting and said to me 'splash'. Now, he often says, splash, and likes throwing things in water (of all kinds) to make a splash. But my gut told me to check the toilet. He HAD gone poopy, pee'd on the floor (didn't aim) and there was tp in the toilet too. I was soo excited (though I had to clean up the floor). He got down and ran off. When we got him back (since he was naked & needed to wipe) he had a huge smile on his face, he was excited too. He came back in and proceeded to flush (saying bye) and finish the routine. Yeah !!!!! Hopefully we can keep this up ;-) Jackie
