Hi all,

Just wanted to let you know that 's surgery went well. He spent the

night in ICU for observation and make sure he was able to breathe alright. He

had trouble with nausea again but were able to treat this through the IV this

time and quicker. They gave him pain medication even though he wasn't

complaining much and slept most of the day, just by looking at his heart rate

elevation. I felt very comfortable in his care and always have in the

pediatric ICU unit.

It was hard being up there and watched a set of parents lose their child

while we were there. It was so sad. My daughter walked in as they were

wheeling out the bed with the covered sheet and a smiley sticker on top. She

came in crying just watching it. It makes you realize that as bad as your

situation is, there is always someone who has it worse and makes you thankful

that what your going through isn't as bad.

Thanks for all of your prayers and support. Hoping this is all behind us now

and can breathe normally and no more sleep apnea.

So glad things went well . A little one died when Seth had his heart

surgery too. Saddest thing I ever saw. Hope that is the end of 's

problems now.

So true and well said, . At one point was in the peds ICU for

five weeks and several children died whose parents we had come to know. It

was sad beyond words, and I felt the same way about our situation not being

as bad. No matter how awful things get and how sorry I feel for myself and

our family, God always seems to put someone or something in front of me that

" knocks me upside the head " and makes me get my perspective back.

I'm so glad to hear did so well. You must be very relieved. I hope he

sleeps peacefully now. Take care,

Maureen

I remember (vaguely) when my favorite aunt tried to kill herself. I was about

5, and I remember knowing it was serious because they don't normally let little

kids in. I also remember asking her why she wanted to die and she told me that

no one loved her, and in my child-like innocence I told her I loved her. I

remember not understanding why that would make her cry. I must have been told

that dying was " going to sleep " at one time because I remember being terrified

that if I went to sleep, I wouldn't wake up. I've never used that analogy with

. I always say someone died. Not, passed on, or the big sleep or went to

heaven (because not everyone does), and so on. I know how literal he is.

Not nearly the same trauma as a child, but I remember when my Dad was in the

hospital in a coma for 4 months, we all got to know the various families

really well too. This was a teaching hospital and a trauma unit (Hospital

of the Univ. of PA). I'll never forget the feeling when the ICU would go

into shut-down. They lock the doors and put sheets up to cover the window.

Code Blue was heard and people were running and all the families would sit in

the room in complete TERROR because we never knew who it was that was in

trouble. You just sat and prayed. Numerous times during our horrendous

time there, nurses or docs would come out and break the news to the family.

I always remember feeling so relieved, but incredibly awful (guilty)

afterwards!!

Boy Loriann!!! Brings tears to my eyes!!!!!

Good point. I totally agree. My sister used that analogy with her son who

was 7 at the time my mother died (almost two years ago). Jimmy was extremely

close to my mother (she babysat him) and he kept thinking she was just going

to wake up. On a funny note, we had come back from the viewing (we're

Catholic) to my mother's house and Jimmy went to the refrigerator. He

opened it and was stunned. " HEY everybody " he yelled, " Nan forgot to take

her food with her " . LOLOL We kept saying so many times during that year and

a half that we lost both our parents, Thank GOD for kids; they make you

laugh when you need to!!!

Our own dear Halle-, life never seems peaceful and easy for you, you

poor sweetie! I am so sorry about your latest episode of illness and I hope

they can find the culprit (could it be that bad boy pancreas one more time)?

Just know that you are in my prayers and in my heart and I am so sorry you are

going through all of this. I wish you a speedy (and permanent) recovery! Hugs

Hi Jess,

I just loved your typos! I sure do remember Morphine! I was in a

semi-private room and I had a pump that I could press every 10 minutes. My

room-mate had peritonitis. She thought it was hilarious that I imagined the

window latch was a real bird. The nurses would come to suction her incision

and I would be talking to the imaginary birds. I was sent home with 100

percocets. I later found out the Doctor felt so guilty he couldn't help

me. I was only supposed to have 10.

I hope you are able to eat well.

All the best,

.

Welcome home, Jess! Like everyone else said, take it easy and get healed up -- there's plenty of time to get us caught up after you're feeling more "with it".

Hi Jess,

I wanted to wish you a speedy recovery and will pray your surgey is a successful one. I also had a perforation during my surgery (3 years ago). I was in for a week with nothing by mouth until we were sure that there wasn't any leakage from the perf. I'm sorry you needed to have the drainage tubes... I was so afraid that they were going to need to put the drainage tubes in me due to my perforation and cried all day long in the hospital worrying about it, but then the xrays showed that there wasn't any more leakage...what a relief!

I am doing well now, but I do need to have a dilatation probably due to scar tissue. I had alot of scar tissue when I had my myotomy and there really wasn't any reason for it since the surgery was the first treatment that I underwent for my achalasia. The perforation was a result of all the scar tissue which made the surgery difficult, but my surgeon was skilled enough to keep the procedue lap.

Wishing you all the best,

Sandi

Take care and don't rush

Hello :

So glad to hear everything went so well. All of us read to take it

easy, but we have to learn ourselves. Hope just the one time will make

you learn!!! Please ... do not hurry the heavy foods too quickly, that

is another learning experience.

Thanks for sharing ... Kathie in Pittsburgh
