Guest guest
I would be talking to my surgeon by now if I had that problem with either knee I had done. No such problem here. I don't think that is sciatic though. Donna R Pain Behind Knee Anyone experience severe pain BEHIND the knee long after TKR? Replacement was early Feb -- therapy went well -- good range, then sharp pain behind the knee in May. This limb is more useless than before the surgery. I think it's sciaticWhat's the outlook? Guest guest
Hi Bill, sorry about the pain behind the knee. No, I never had that. What has your PT said? Yes, it could be sciatic related. Good luck. Guest guest
Hi Bill I did have severe pain behind my knee and sciatica but it went away good news! My first knee was unbearable at times and I went to the ER twice over it. Left tkr 12/7/10 The second knee right tkr 4/19/11 had it too, but to a much lesser degree. I found for me exercise helped a lot and icing the area's much for. I would love to.keep.up with your progress. Jeanie

I >>think it's sciatic...What's the outlook? I too have been experiencing some pain behind the knee but worse pain down my shin. - I had mine done last August, and from April onwards I've had pain, sometimes excruciating, just below my knee, and down my shin, reaching out into the muscles either side of the shin. Also slight pain behind the knee. It gets worse when I sit, especially in a car and when I am driving. Walking is fine though, and 3 days ago I walked the Race for Life (in aid of Cancer research) which was 3 miles. I've been to see my surgeon, had xrays done and blood tests, and am awaiting a bone scan later this month. The xrays shows a line just below my knee, which could be something or nothing. I'm sorry I can't help with your prognosis, but I do hope that whatever it is can be sorted out quickly. Lin
Guest guest
Thanks for the replies everyone ……. More info in my back-off-knee-light-ups:…….The Feb `11 surgery and therapy went well, then an old sciatic issue emerged. For years I've had a rare sciatic issue that would go away for months. However, toward the end of PT, the old butt-down-the-leg sciatic came back. The surgeon and therapist were sure they could resolve this common ailment, so a month of add'l PT began. At the end of that month, the discomfort had moved from the butt and thigh to the back of the knee, and remains there! The Medicare PT clock in FL ran out, and we headed to the North Woods of Minnesota for the summer, where Pts, medicine men, are not too handy……… I'm just sure that is nerves back there " zinging " . The most discomfort comes when the knee is bent back, just moderately. During PT, the knee would flex back with no discomfort, now all sorts of " wires light up back there " . Since competent PT's in FL were not able to eliminate the problem, I'm wondering if chiropractor, acupuncturist, or masseuse would help? If I can find one……… What do you think? Guest guest
Hi Bill, I have always held, whatever works. All that stuff didn't work for me, hence the knee replacement. But, if you know it is sciatica, and it probably is, simple stretching is the best remedy. Not only of the knee, but of your entire buttock and legs areas. At lesast it is more comfortable in Minnesota know that it would be in Florida. If you can find therapists in the wilds, try that. Againl whatever works! Hiking happily;y in N.
