Guest guest
The herbalists in my area absolutely swear by herb quality over quantity and cost. They all use the Nature's Sunshine product line, much to the chagrin of the local health shops. No doubt top-quality competition exists but it is not coming from Swanson's or the other vitamin producers. all good, Duncan > > Well IMHO, Swansons herbs are not anything I would purchase...or take if they were given to me...the thing is an herbal product is only as good as the company producing it and their own corporate culture of more or less integrity. Guest guest
Don Thank you for your review. I have been questioning the quality of Swanson for all the two years I have purchased from them. I know that their Signature Skin pill stopped my hair loss. But I am not in the market to spend $25/mo to keep my hair from falling out. So maybe their Signature Line is the line to buy. But other than that, in the last year, I have phased out buying supplements from them. I have just gone to buying certain things from them, like oils, toothpaste, and food and a few other things related to these these. Although, I was now considering trying herbs, which I had not tried before. But now I hesitate to do that. How do you research products and ingredients to find the true quality? I am very surprised that you could find what exactly the microcrystalline cellulose is made of. What are some good sources for researching these things? ________________________________ From: Don <hooty304@...> Coconut Oil Sent: Thu, March 10, 2011 4:54:25 PM Subject: Re: Swansons herbs = fillers....was: Protandim Well IMHO, Swansons herbs are not anything I would purchase...or take if they were given to me...the thing is an herbal product is only as good as the company producing it and their own corporate culture of more or less integrity. Guest guest
Don, You specifically mentioned the Green Foods Formula, not the broken cell wall chlorella. The chlorella is in capsule form and most capsules do have additives. So if you can find the ingredients in Prostandim without these additives please let us know. And it is entirely possible that Prostandim has them as well, but I can't vouch for that. Guest guest
Does anyone know how harmful those fillers are? When comes to supplements regardless Swansons, iherbs and other companies, most have fillers unless trash the supplements and go for quality foods.  Then the question is do we get all what our body needs from foods? From: Dolores <dgk@...> Subject: Re: Swansons herbs = fillers....was: Protandim Coconut Oil Date: Thursday, March 10, 2011, 6:37 PM  Don, You specifically mentioned the Green Foods Formula, not the broken cell wall chlorella. Guest guest
Helen, most of the additives and fillers are actually healthy when they are not inert. I'd be more careful with the preservatives. You can clip each one into a google search to find out what they do. all good, Duncan > > > > > snip > > > > > > > lots of nasty fillers, binders and such in them... > > > > > > > From the label of swanson green foods formula: > >
Guest guest
yes...you need to search out each one... Magnesium stearate is one that I had heard is not so good...it is controversial to some. I researched it and decided I would not like it... it is an additive that seems to make the powder put in herbal capsules flow better thru the machinery...and has saturated fat in it... the point is why?... why not take half as many capsules per day if they were full of just herb?... when there are 6 additives...I am left to wonder why?...and wonder who benefits from these...  I decide I wish to spend my nutrition dollar on high quality herbs... it seems to me that they are fluffing up the powder to seem more than it is and all I want is undiluted herb...everyone is free to make their own choices... I also prefer tinctures as they have a better and more complete impact on my system as they bypass the 'gut' where up to 70% of the vitamin / supplement / herbal capsule is lost... d ~ certified herbal tincture specialist From: Dolores <dgk@...> Subject: Re: Swansons herbs = fillers....was: Protandim Coconut Oil Date: Thursday, March 10, 2011, 6:37 PM  Don, You specifically mentioned the Green Foods Formula, not the broken cell wall chlorella. Guest guest
Go on Swansonvitamins.com and just look for Swanson's Signature Line of products and then narrow it down to The Skin Pill. The Signature Line all come in blue bottles with blue labels. Don't bother with any of Swanson's other skin pill, that is in a green bottle. ________________________________ From: Margarita Koufopoulos <margomix@...> Coconut Oil Sent: Thu, March 10, 2011 11:18:49 PM Subject: Re: Swansons herbs = fillers....was: Protandim Dear Lyn, What exactly stopped your hair from falling out. Guest guest
That's ok Don. I can see how that would be confusing. The Green Max Powder is really good though. It's made from all natural ingredients and no fillers. You might want to recommend that one to your friend. It's easily mixed in apple sauce (my favorite), V-8, or smoothies. I wish him well. Guest guest
You might want to look into something else, too. Since I could not continue with the Skin Pill because of the price, I stopped using it a year ago. I used it for three months and it stopped my hair loss in the first week, that is how good it was for me. But the price was formidable and I had to stop. So, needless to say, my hair started falling out again. But I have started to do something now and surprisingly it has made it stop falling out again. I will share that with you. It is called The Sal-C Protocol. You can type Salt-C into the youtube site and find videos about this. Then if you are even more curious about this, I can give you more information. You can email me again. ________________________________ From: Margarita Koufopoulos <margomix@...> Coconut Oil Sent: Thu, March 10, 2011 11:31:09 PM Subject: Re: Swansons herbs = fillers....was: Protandim Thank you Lyn! Guest guest
Lyn, low potassium with high salt is one of the causes of a wasting disorder called rhabdomyolysis, which a couple of people were running into. The main side effect besides high-energy tissue such as muscle and brain wasting, is sudden death due to heart attack. Luckily, nobody died. So, a little precaution. I hope you use extra potassium to balance your electrolytes while using high salt. all good, Duncan > >> > >> From: Lyn K <godisbest4me@...> > >> Subject: Re: Re: Protandim > >> Coconut Oil > >> Date: Thursday, March 10, 2011, 9:14 AM > >> > >> > >> > >> I checked this out and if you buy strictly Swanson's brands, there are two buy > > > > > >> > >> one/get one sales on these herbs going on right now, so that helps quite a bit > > > > > >> > >> with the price. Guest guest
I’m not any sort of expert but my dh worked in the manufacturing part of a relatively large supplement company. He did everything from the lowest job on the totem pole to some management. Now he works for a small business that bottles supplements. There is a difference in the quality of supplements. A lot has to do with testing to make sure that adequate amounts of each supplement are actually in the product. When a vitamin or herb is encapsulated, there often does have to be something to help with flow. It doesn’t necessarily mean that the product isn’t a good one just because of a flow ingredient. On the other hand, an herb or vitamin isn’t going to be much good if it’s mainly filler. There is certification (can’t remember the name of it right now) that if a company has this – it means they really are turning out a good quality product. The company dh works for now (and the one before) have this and it’s not easy to get. Anyway, often it is true that you get what you pay for. Certain ingredients are really expensive and if a product claims to have them but are selling for really cheap, you have to wonder how much of that ingredient is actually in it. Guest guest
Ignoring that Stearate is a healthy fat found in our bodies, I suspect I get more saturated fat from eating one chicken wing than I get from several weeks worth of supplements containing Magnesium Stearate.
