I havnt had it, but I will be going to the doc soon about my wrists.....they are VERY painful....Please let me know how it goes, I want to keep up with someone who's been there, doing that... Even if you want to write privately......if you can, I would appreciate it... Good Luck.

HiNot having my wrist replaced (at least not yet) but am having some tears fixed, debris removed. Have a different Dr. then for my bi-lateral knees but he is located in the same clinic. He is a person of few words lol have learned more from the surgery center. First this type of surgery is one of the longer ones that's done & will take at least 1 hour of " Dr's time " . The good news of that is I'm first up with a 7:30 " start " time. I've been told the first week will be in a sprint, then the staples are removed, then there will be about 5 weeks recovery. Has anyone else had wrist surgery? How was the recovery, can you compare it to the repair the tears in the knees? Gloria

Hi Marguerite

So far I haven't found anyone else that was wrist surgery. Now my Dr does

12 to 15 hand/wrist surgeries a week so there must be more of us out there.

While my wrist isn't as painful as my knees were it is still not fun. And it

seems like it is deja vu' (spelling) all over again just a different body

part. It didn't make me feel better when the Dr. told me he wanted to wait

until Jan. because of Dec. with my packing/shipping, etc with the web sites

because of the recovery. Guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Will let you know the end result as soon as I can type again lol.

Gloria,

I went for my knee check up yesterday and requested a cortisone shot in my wrist and a splint. We'll see how that does for awhile....Good Luck on Monday!

I have bad wrists and hands, and once my knees are repaired and doing well, I plan to find out what can be done for my wrists. "It came to me that every time I lose a pet they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new pet who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be an animal, and I will become as generous and loving as they are." --- mthoover@... wrote:From: "mthoover" <mthoover@...><Joint Replacement >Subject: Re: a little OT wrist surgery on MondayDate: Thu, 3 Jan 2008 06:48:57 -0800Hi MargueriteSo far I haven't found anyone else that was wrist surgery. My primary care Dr. suggested either shots or a hand specialist. The hand

specialist told me that the shots would not have help - just maybe in one

small area. I do wear two different types of wrist bands, one is huge, one

is more like a glove with open fingers. They help a little just not much,

all they do is stablize the wrist so that you don't get so much of the

sharp, sudden pain.

At least I have a little hope lol. Husband was warning his various crews

that he would not be in on Monday. One guy spoke up that he had the surgery

20 + years ago when he was in the Army. Today he play basketball at lunch,

fishes, does alot of sports, plus does mechanic/machine work. The bad news

is that over the years he is losing mobility in his wrists. I know a little

of bit of his job so that might be part of it plus of course he is now in

his mid-40's.

Since with my bi-lateral knees, old age and being cranky I don't play

baseball lol nor do machine work on a daily basis I might be a little better

off.

Well the surgery is done. Right hand/wrist and I;m right handed of course.

The banadge/splint thing is huge!! It looks like my arm is in a cast and was

broken type huge. The bottom of the bandage is a hard splint to stablize my

wrist/hand/arm. Can't move it at all and the dressing goes into the palm up

to the base of the fingers so gripping is not easy, can just wiggle the

fingers, and spread them. Husband picked up the meds on the way home and I

was surprised at the volume of pain meds. Oxycodone 5mg but 40 tablets,

Hydroxyz for nausea and to supplement pain med. with a chaser of Hydrocod

(Vicodin) 40 tabelets plus a refill. This really surprised me until Tues

when the numby stuff the Dr had insert into the wrist wore off!! @#@#@#

this really hurts - throbbing, itching, hot (since the bandage is so thick &

can't be removed until Tues), can move much, the nerves have already started

their little test shots. Typing/keying is a interesting experience, getting

dressed with one arm is well not so fun. Glad I have a sock puller on from

my bi-lateral knees. We take so much for granted like the simple act of

unscrewing the cap from a water bottle.

Just wanted to let you know how things are going.

Glad you are home Gloria and other than the immobility sounds like you are doing well...that is alot of pain meds...I guess they know how much it hurts......Let us know how it goes when you get the monster dressing off....I had a cortisone shot last week in my thumb joint and it seems to be helping for the time being. I know its a temporary fix.
