Guest guest
Duncan I must thank you. I have been using a more powerful blender for my morning smoothies .. and I just used to drop everythingin the blender including the whey.. What came out was a very thick , milky and strange tasting concoction... I was about to put the blame on the NOW undenatured Whey I used in lieu of the more expensive Biochem (10 lbs NOW undenatured whey sack, can be found at less than $80 including shipping at Amazon.com) ... Today, following the advices (if not the recipe), I first mixed my fruits with Coconut Milk and raw egg then simply added the whey gave it a few seconds whirl, left it alone for a minute or so .. when I had it tasty and flavorful not the chalky, ashy (really tasted like ashes) smoothie, I forced myself to have the past few mornings .. Now the question: What do yo mean by " not to break the undenatured whey " .. I suspect a few hings but need to understand what I was doing wrong ... Thanks for your immense contributions to this list Frantx From: Duncan Crow <duncancrow@...> Subject: undenatured whey smoothie recipe Coconut Oil Date: Wednesday, February 16, 2011, 8:51 PM This basic undenatured whey smoothie recipe makes 2 servings. 1/3 cup thick cream, 1 cup milk, 2 heaping scoops, ca. 70 grams undenatured whey (chocolate flavour?), 9 ground up 1,000 IU vitamin D3 pills, 2 ground 200 mcg selenium pills (selenomethionine), 1 rounded tsp inulin, 1 rounded tsp lecithin. Put the cream in a blender, emulsify the lecithin into it, add inulin and ground vitamins on low speed and add the milk, any coconut cream or coocnut mlk, the whey powder, then turn it off right away to not break the undenatured whey. If it's too thick, add more milk. If I run out of milk I use water. I've also used stale coffee as the liquid; it goes good with chocolate whey You can add quite a few more things to it such as stabilized rice bran, Chia, kelp powder etc., getting closer to my " glyconutrient pudding " that approached supplementation from another angle. all good, Duncan
Guest guest
But where is the chia seed? How much goes into this? ________________________________ From: FrantzM <frantzgm@...> Coconut Oil Sent: Thu, February 17, 2011 10:16:08 AM Subject: Re: undenatured whey smoothie recipe Duncan I must thank you. Guest guest
Lyn Sorry, I don't use Chia seeds.. Not yet anyway. A few of My recipes: Pina-Colada Healthful Smoothie 1 Banana (I like them very ripened) 1 Cup of Pineapple Chunks 1 Cup of Coconut Milk 2 Tbsp Coconut Oil 2 Raw eggs with Omega 3 28 grams of undenatured whey ( actually the scoop in the NOW 1.2 lbs container is about 28 grams) t Tbsp of inullin ( Metamucil Clear is pure inulin) Drop of Vanilla Stevia if needed Put everything but the Whey in the blender. Liquefy it... Low speed is better than high speed, if speed is too high the eggs while will make it fluffy and full or air bubbles. then and only then add the whey give a pulse for a few seconds (less than 7 secs) let the smoothie stand for a few minutes .. You have a delicious Protein-nutrients-filled smoothie. You can always drop your supplements if their taste is not objectionable .. I would not drop Cod Liver oil in it for example BlueBerry - Spinach Smoothie 1 Cup of tightly packed Organic Baby Spinach 1 cup of Blueberry 1/2 cup of peach 1 Banana cut in chunks 1 Cup of Water 2 Raw eggs with Omega 3 28 grams of undenatured whey ( actually the scoop in the now botle is about 28 grams) t Tbsp of inulin ( Metamucil Clear is pure inulin) Drop of Vanilla Stevia if needed Shred the Spinach with a knife.. add water and blend until you have a green smoothie.. Better have a powerful blender. When this is liquid, add Blueberries and peach. Blend until smooth. Add banana, the eggs and in inulin. Blend until smooth... Same approach with the whey .. add it stir a it leave it to stand .. Tasteful green smoothie .. I have added, green algae, spirulina and wheat grass to this , make it even more flavorful and (likely) healthier From: Duncan Crow <duncancrow@...> Subject: undenatured whey smoothie recipe Coconut Oil Date: Wednesday, February 16, 2011, 8:51 PM This basic undenatured whey smoothie recipe makes 2 servings. 1/3 cup thick cream, 1 cup milk, 2 heaping scoops, ca. 70 grams undenatured whey (chocolate flavour?), 9 ground up 1,000 IU vitamin D3 pills, 2 ground 200 mcg selenium pills (selenomethionine), 1 rounded tsp inulin, 1 rounded tsp lecithin. Guest guest
Hi Frantz; you're welcome. The undenatured fraction of whey protein breaks down at the delicate sulfide bonds we are trying to keep, with heat and with strong mechanical agitation. So I only have the whey going in the blender for seconds; purists would suggest shaking the jar instead as being less damaging. all good, Duncan > > Duncan > > I must thank you. ...What do yo mean by " not to break the undenatured whey " .. Guest guest
I don't use Chia seed in my smoothies but given it's bland I'd suspect 2 rounded teaspoonfuls or even more soaked seed would hide in there OK, and that ground seed might be better than whole in a smoothie. This is the undenatured whey smoothie I was adding two heaping tbsps cow colostrum to, from bulkcolostrum.com, for the mammalian transfer factors and IGF-1 and several bovine growth factors. When we start adding stabilized rice bran, inulin, Chia Seed, kelp powder, psyllium or other fiber in quantity we can consider it much closer to the " glyconutrient pudding " recipe and maybe just put a spoon in it. all good, Duncan > > But where is the chia seed? Guest guest
I used to use a blender stick when I made up my glass of whey, but then I read somewhere that the amino acids were fragile. So now I put my ingredients in a wide mouth jar and shake them up. Works fine for me as I don't use any fruit or berries because I am diabetic and keep my carbs real low.
