No, the coconut oil didn't go rancid on me because I didn't buy the " ordinary "

VCO after all but Virgin Oil de Coco Creme, the phamaceutically pure one with

the longest shelf life. For cooking I prefer deodorized oil.

, there shouldn't be any moisture content in properly-centrifuged VCO,

though, so it's irrelevant whether the process uses chilled water or not because

it'll all be gone as you say.

Sorry I don't know what QFI equipment filters with to make the Virgin Oil de

Coco Creme pharmaceutically pure, but it must be good :)

Duncan

> Duncan,

>

oil is in

> (1) controlling the moisture content.  Most producers add the coconut water or

plain water when they squeeze out the milk - cold press.  WE DON'T.  We use pure

coconut milk.  So there is not much water there.  Moisture is evident at the

bottom of the oil when it is present.  They appear as tiny clear bubbles and

should be taken out.

thoroughly, then it will also go rancid quickly. Many people use  muslin cloth

to filter.  This is no good.  And one has to filter many many times until there

are no floaters in the oil at all.

Hi there,

A really good homemade formula is to mix coconut cream with goat's whey

protein and give it to the baby. It is very nutritious and has lots of those

healthy medium chain fatty acids that mother's milk is also rich in. The

goat's whey protein is much easier to digest and I have found that babies

really love it. We presently do not have a coconut cream available but you

can for now purchase a coconut milk and goat's whey protein called Goatein.

Hi

Has anyone heard of giving coconut milk to a baby. My boy is 8 months old

and has acid reflux. He can't have formula but the more I read about it the

more I don't want to give him any anyway. Does anyone know the nutrional

information about cocnut milk or where I can find it?

Have you tried goat's milk? Raw would be best if you can find it. Apparently,

it's the closest thing to breast milk and raw would retain all the enzymes that

pasteurization and homogenization kills. It's full of goodness.

Roxana the short shelf life of VCO is an observation by the largest coconut oil

importer in North America, based on their experience of so many container loads

per month. They have done the lab work; now they are careful to sell the

product quickly so it doesn't go rancid.

Duncan,

I just find this company's experience on virgin coconut oil's very short shelf

life very unusual. How does the company define shelf life of virgin coconut oil

in terms of technical specs?

Well Peggy, I will bite if you did not get an answer I will try, I am sure if I

am wrong someone will jump in and let me know.  But I asked this same question

about butter milk and this is what I was told:

" You can take any recipe and use buttermilk.  I never use 100% because I don't

want to freeze the milk.  So I do a 50% water to dissolve the lye in.  When

the oils are ready for the lye solution I then add the buttermilk to the lye

solution stir and then add to the oils.  That way there is no freezing the milk

so the lye will not try to burn it.  Much easier. "      From Zo

Morning all. I have some powdered coconut milk I would like to use in soap. Do I

use it like cow/goat milk or some other method?

Thanks for the help,

I love coconut milk in soap! You can either put water in the powder to make it

milky, and add it at trace, or you can just add the powder at trace. I have had

coconut milk turn tan when I've added it earlier, so there is that possibility.

I prefer to make it liquidy and add it at trace, with my essential oils.

Hi Lois,

To 1 tablespoon of milk grains, add 1 cup of coconut milk. Rinse the grains to

get rid of the milk curd or milk residue before you put them to the coconut

milk. Brew as you would for milk.

Blend frozen banana, ground flaxseed, orange juice (or concentrate) and coconut

milk kefir for a power smoothies :-)

Nice to see you posting again Sev.

I know that the preferable coconut juice is the one that comes from young

coconut--buko juice. Would it be alright to drink the coconut water/juice from

mature coconuts? There is no fresh buko juice here in Texas.

Thanks

Mely,

Unless you prefer the unique taste of coconut water(CW) from young/tender

coconut (7-8 mos.old nuts called 'buko' or 'butong' in the Philippines) the CW

from mature or ripe nuts (11.5 -12 mos.old) should be suitable for drinking as

an energy drink/ natural healthy hydrating liquid.

Following are some differences and similarities between the two forms of CW:

CW from mature nuts has more contents of carbs, protein, fats. While CW from

young/tender nuts with higher sucrose, vitamin C, but similar contents of

reducing sugars (fructose and glucose).

The mineral nutrients esp the ionic or electrolyte components K, Ca, Mg, Na,S,P

and Cl of the two forms of CW similar or almost the same. The fact is the main

ionic contents of K is balanced by the high levels of chloride ions and this

natural and unique to coconut  water.

Hoping, this posting make sense to you.

Thanks for your kind reply Sev. I shall go for the mature coconuts here. I think

they must be irradiated, will that strip it of its nutrients. I can't think of

me drinking nuked juice.
