Guest guest
Nah, I may go out my 6 month anniversary. I'm going to wait it out a little bit longer and see what's involved with this new 15 minute clinic spots. I work and don't get paid when I have to take off, and I don't feel like spending the gas money to tell Dr R that I feel fine, and for him to ask me how I'm doing. Ya know? Guest guest
Pat, This was a very good post. It said a lot of the things I also have done in my life. I also was a member of OA and also a member of Al- anon. I also did a 4th step inventory in both of these programs and I learned so much about myself!!!! Some of it I was not to pleased with. I also learned that I had a part in the mess my life and marriage had become. It was quite humbling to come to a place where I had to admit that I had caused a lot of my own problems and that my husband, parents, brother, etc......was not all to blame for the wreck I had become. I have been in counseling off and on for a long time. I kept quitting because the counselors would get to close to some issues that I was to scared to work on, so I would quit going. Never did really deal with anything. This time I have been going for almost 2 years and have not quit when things get hard. Although physical recovery did not happen for me in OA, I am still very glad that I was a part of it. I attended meetings for almost 10 years. I have not gone back because I was not sure how I would be accepted after having WLS. The meetings in my town have since folded. Thanks for the post, you brought up some things that I had not thought about for a while. It was a very good reminder of where I came from and where I can go back to if I forget to take care of myself. Bonded by our experience, strength and hope Rhonda MGB - 11/30/00 279/185.5/1?? > Marg > > I know you did not write to me, but so many have problems like you are expressing after having WLS and losing weight. It would probably be beneficial for you to go for counseling, even if your husband won't, to learn how to handle your new feelings and to discover what your options are at this point. Sometimes this will jar a spouse out of complacency--they see that you mean business. Sometimes it doesn't, also, and then you will have to weigh your choices, but having help at this stage is very beneficial. > > I have been married for 42 years, and the WLS has not affected my marriage, but 10 years ago, after doing OA inventory, I decided that I needed to go get some counseling, and just did it. It was one of the best things I ever did. My husband did not believe in counseling, or " dragging up the past " , but I learned how to talk to him to get him to confront issues, and it helped us tremendously. I went for three months before I ever got up the nerve to tell my husband that I was going. He went into shock when I finally got the nerve to tell him. I also got the nerve to make him discuss some things with me. It changed our lives. > > In the final analysis, you are the only person you can change, but just learning some new communication techniques helps in many cases. I also learned that I was the cause of lots of the problems we had, and I learned how to accept that and make changes. I really learned how to respect myself and value myself, and this caused others to respect and value me more. Our own self esteem, or lack of it, invite some of the problems that we have with others. > > I quit accepting some treatment from others that had hurt me, and when I quit accepting it, I got much better treatment. > > Depression is so common after WLS and that is why the good Dr. R wanted each of us to have psychiatric care available to us. I did not go to a psychiatrist, but to a Christian clinical psychologist (Minerth-Meyer Clinic). Today, with our country like it is, most of us could use a little help with depression. Depression is justified!! It is a depressing time, but we can learn how to handle it. > > I learned also to quit expecting my husband to make me happy and took the responsibility of making myself happy. I got involved in things for myself for the first time in my adult life, and began to enjoy living. Occasionally my family makes comments about this, but I always reply that I lived the first part of my life exclusively for them, and that it is now my turn. I pamper myself, buy things for myself, do things for myself, because I deserve it! Sort of like that hair color ad on t.v. My happiness no longer depends on another person. And, the side benefit is that those around me are more caring and more loving and supportive since I do not need it so badly. Being too needy pushes others away I discovered. > > I have a loving husband, but I do not depend on him for fulfillment in my life. I have a life of my own. I stay busy with church affairs, friends, good causes, doing for others, exercising, having fun with " the girls " , etc. That took a big burden off my husband. > I get a little concerned about the messages on this board about finding the right man, etc. Our happiness does not have to depend on this. That is just a side benefit. > > I am sorry for preaching a sermon and I apologize if I stepped on any toes, but I feel so strongly about these things and I know how much I have been helped and wish everyone could get the same help I received. I am one who believes good therapy can help everyone. > > Pat Eppler > > Re: Marg > > > Hi Carla, > > Thanks so much for letting me blow off some jealousy and depression and just > stuff lol. Guest guest
Thanks for the kind words. I am thankful for OA also, even if I did not get the weight under control from it, I did learn a lot of helpful things about myself and others. Guest guest
Hello Pat, Your messages are great. Your enthusiasm is positively inspiring. I am so happy to hear that you are doing so well with your LifeLift program. It gives me a boost to turn on the computer and read your great experiences with LifeLift. Thanks for sharing. Be Healthy and take good care, Rashelle Harness the Powerful Benefits of Oxygen with LifeLift. Oxygen burns fat, tones muscles, reduces stress Be healthier with each breath you take with LifeLift www.oxygenlift.net. LifeLift is the Original Aerobic Breathing Re: Hi All! A question for you Hi Lida, The VERY BEST luck to you with the LL program. I have been on it for a little over two weeks already (I think) and I am having wonderful results. I have lost nearly 10 inches in my waist already!! I do about 100 LL breaths a day, and, yes, you are right, as far as my experience is concerned, anyway. The more oxygen you get into your lungs and your entire body by doing LL as often as you can each day, the more weight and inches you will lose until your body has had enough weight loss. Then, you will be able to use LL breathing for weight maintenance for the rest of your life with the same wonderful success you had in losing your excess blubber in the first place. I have NEVER been on a weight loss program like this one, and especially not on a BREATHING weight loss program. I am SO HAPPY that I found Rashelle and her terrific LL program!! This is the best thing, bar none, that has ever crossed my path. I will use this LL program for the rest of my life, for certain. I have not bought or worked with any of Rashelle's excecise tapes or videos yet, but will buy them all and start using them some time in the future. Again, the VERY BEST OF LUCK to you, !!! Please let all of us know how you are doing with the LL program as time goes by!! That is what we are all here for!! To support each other in our LL programs!!! Guest guest
You're something else Pat!!!! You're very special!!!!! I'm doing OK. Not totally well, but I am better!!!! I've been walking 4 or 5 days a week and doing some LL. I have high blood pressure now, so I've cut back some on my LL. I've noticed that sometimes I get a headache after doing a lot of LL breaths, so I mainly just do small amounts at a time, although today I did quite a few while using my stability ball. :-) Love, Liz > > Hi Liz, > > I was waiting for the happy birthday song from you in celebrating > Laurie's birthday!!
