Guest guest
sorry to be so long to respond...I wouldnt think you not haveing to not take the vicodin would have anything to do with withdrawal...or maybe I am misunderstanding you....I would check with my doc about the depression. Maybe he might check your blood count. But myself, it took longer than 4 wks to get my energy back. Did you have a transfusion after surgery? I am on 100mgs of Zoloft...should I ask the doc to up it?Also...I have been on Vicadin for a year...and I have noticed that Ionly take 1 to none these last few days for pain (a very good thing)could it be withdraws? pam
Guest guest
One month after RTKR was awful for my husband. He felt the same way - it was worse than the first couple of weeks. His doctor doubled his antidepressant. He slept and slept and slept. Now, two months post-op he feels much better. He was quite anemic as well. He took iron for a few weeks, directed by the doctor. Iron is hard to take - causes nausea and constipation and loss of appetite in some people. He is still improving his blood count, but has stopped taking the iron. One month post op it seemed like it was never going to get better, two months post op he's turned a corner and is much better but has a loooooong way to go. > > > I am now 4 weeks post op on my LTKR. Guest guest
I did go the doctor and he thinks it is a combination of things. The low blood count (yes I had 3 units after surgery), body getting used to less Vicadin, post-op depression, and just my body is worn out from 3 major surgeries and a mild heart attack all in one year. He told me to be easier on my self. But on a good note..I lost 4 pounds! pam > > > I am now 4 weeks post op on my LTKR. I seem to have very little energy > > and will to do much of anything. Guest guest
Hi Marguerite, I agree with your doctor. Be easy on yourself, it sounds like you and your body have been through hell this year. A TKR is not an easy operation for anyone and post operative depression is common. For someone who has been through what you have in the past year, it would be only natural to expect some depression. Keep your friends close and family closer, they help. Don't try to tackle it yourself, let others help you through it. As for the pain meds, take them as needed, but try to come off them as early as possible, they're no good for you or your liver over extended use. We're all here for you and will support you through written word. Best Regards Alan in NJ > > > > > I am now 4 weeks post op on my LTKR. Guest guest
Thank you for the reply. Sometimes it's just hard to remember that it was a short time ago (5 weeks now) that I had the surgery...I need to be easier on myself. Its ok to rest when tired. My blood work came back and my level is going up...and Yes the pills are very hard on the stomach! I can't take them everyday with out being in alot of pain. Today spent a long day at school getting things in order to begin again Monday...came home so tired (5:00) and slept till 9! I guess the body needs the rest to heal. pam > > > > > I am now 4 weeks post op on my LTKR. I seem to have very little energy > > > and will to do much of anything.
