I have no experience with this as I haven't ridden since I was young. Thinking about what goes into riding though, I think she could probably manage it after a few months. I actually think the reason my right knee was damaged more than my left (had RTKR, don't need LTKR yet) is because I rode poles on horses and banged my knee frequently. So hopefully she is just riding, not running into things like I used to.

Once she's had her TKR and her PT for a month or so, she should be able to slowly go back to riding. Just make sure the PT knows that is her goal and they will make sure she is fit for it. At first, it hurt to sit in a chair with my knee bent so I imagine the same would be said of sitting in a saddle. I guess it would depend on which knee she needs done whether mounting the horse would be difficult but my right knee actually wasn't supporting my weight well before surgery but now has no pain when I use it to stand on so she should be in good shape.

Anyone out there have any experience (good or bad) with equestrian sport after total knee replacement? My wife will need replacement and needs to ride one or two horses a day in order to stay happy! Thanks, Will

Will,

Tell her to ride them two at a time LOL. Isn't it funny the habit we

get into. I would say she should be able to do just about anything

that she was doing before. But not the day she gets home for the

hospital. She will be tired a lot, part of the healing process. As,

someone just posted and I have said before. Get in as good shape as

you can before hand, that speed up the recovery.

Don

PS I the first or second week she could go a visit them if it is not

to far. She will be happy after that.
