Depending on what the surgeon finds when he gets in there, I may very well wind up with a total, though. I am attending my knee class on Friday, so I hope I will find out the answers to your questions (they are also mine). Sylvia in NC ************ **Get trade secrets for amazing burgers. Guest guest
Age 83, partial L knee 31 Dec 07, partial R knee March 31, 08. No serious problems. Knees and muscles a bit stiff when getting out of bed each time or sitting in a straight chair too long. Now doing stairs normally using two hand rails. Drove at 3 weeks after R knee of necessity to get wife to hospital. Over did it during her hospitalization, then pushing her in wheel chair for a week at home on carpet. Knee and large muscles swelled, considerable pain which gradually subsided and was back to normal after a week of reduced activity and a lot of rest. I use a cane all the time for balance. Good luck. Guest guest
Boy i thought i was the only one who was going through a partial lol lol..mostly their all totals but i too am young, hurt it at work 2 1/2 yrs ago two suregeries later still having promblems with it, still have weight bearing pain and medial pain and crunching noises when bending..it sounds like captain crunch cereal lol lol, though the docs say it will work itself out, therapy says i def need a total, because i should be able to be normal what normal is..I have to weaar a knee brace to help my knee, i have full fleax and great strength but still having pain wht bearing like glass in it...So i thought after my partial was in i was free...but, docs are miracle workers i guess, The partial is just a s rough as the total, the pain will be real so take the meds to help u, good luck...god bless...kim From: don_torrey <don_torrey@...> Subject: Re: Partial knee replacement Joint Replacement Date: Monday, August 4, 2008, 7:49 PM Debbie, thanks and good luck. may I ask who the Dr. is and what reading you have been doing on this procedure? I would like to study up as well. My initial search is indicating it's for lighter people who are not very active. I am the opposite. > > > > I am pretty sure I am heading for a partial knee replacement > > Has anyone gone through this? Guest guest
I beleive that...That's what happened to me i guess now they say i need a total why didnt the y do it when they were in their and fixing it...you wonder..we are the ones who have to go through the pain and rehab....But, the docs feel less is better to keep your most of your knee, cause they only replace them 2 times then your left with it the way it is...i guess kik From: Torrey <don_torrey@...> Subject: Re: Re: Partial knee replacement Joint Replacement Date: Monday, August 4, 2008, 8:29 AM Thanks Don Torrey don_torrey (DOT) com [Total_Joint_ Replacement] Re: Partial knee replacement I asked about that before I had my knee done. My doctor told me that there are three areas that go bad and need this kind of procedure whether total or partial. The first is the left side of the joint the other is the right side and the third is the knee cap. In my case I had problems with the right side knee and knee cap. That is two of the three and a total is want is needed. He also said he did not think much of partials because more surgery could or would be needed later if one of the other two was needed. When you have major engine work on say the head of your car. You replace the valve springs even if they are OK. Same with this kind of an operation. If you are going to have it done go all the way not half or partial. Kind of made sense but everyone should make that decision him or herself. Guest guest
Sharon, I am from MI too. I had a full knee put in on the 10th. I want to thank all here who help me prepare. I was only in the hospital two days and went home on the third day! I did walk while I was in the hospital. They had to know I could go up and down three steps like I would have to do when I got home. Had a real good hospital and MD. I can't believe it is over and I am home. I don't know about partials. Guest guest
Yeah, Donna! Sounds like things are going very well for you. Glad it was a good hospital experience and I¹m guessing you¹re glad to be home too! Take care! Guest guest
Jackie, I just can't believe it. I did have a spinal and no headache either. I told him he had to promise me no headache. He said he couldn't promise but with my age (69) he was pretty sure I wouldn't have. When they started to call me an Over Achiever, I started to laugh and said, no, I was just so scared I wanted to do the best I could. I did get lots of complements, thanks to everyone here who answered all my questions and even some questions I didn't ask but that really helped me. We will see how the rest of this goes but I have been walking around like I have done this before. LOL Thanks everyone! Hugs Donna

Guest guest
Hi Donna, Thanks for the information. I think partials are still relatively rare. Seems he had some bone death years back on just the inside part of the joint. He's 51 and they kept arguiong too young for a full, then they agreed to a partial. I'm assuming he'll be in on Monday, out on Wednesday. Did you need a lot of painkillers? Just wondering how with it he'll be :-) Sharon > > Sharon, > > I am from MI too. Guest guest
Great info, Martha. Thank you. How long were you in the hospital? After leaving the hospital how often did you have PT? Thanks, Sharon > > I had a partial knee replacement last fall and I am doing great. Guest guest
Hi Don, In my husband's case, age was the deciding factor. He is 51. Idea is that if he gets just enough bone removed for a partial now, he can get a Full done maybe ten years from now and that Full will last another 10-15 years. If you look at the pictures online (I googled) it shows that a partial is only about 1/4 the size of a full. I personally had an ankle fusion instead of a very risky ankle replacement, and part of my reason was that I only want surgery once (I was just 44 at the time). You are right, everyone must make the decision on his or her own. Thanks! Sharon > > > > I am pretty sure I am heading for a partial knee replacement > > Has anyone gone through this?
