It has been one week since my wife (61 year old, somewhat overweight)

had a posterior approach, total hip replacement. The discharge sheet

said to call surgeon if there was calf swelling. We did when it did

swell after day five and he said, " That's normal. " A little confusing.

My question is:

Post surgery what is the extent, duration, and amount of swelling

others have experienced with THR (posterior entry) of the leg

concerned? (Her thigh, calf, ankle, and upper foot have swollen about

15% measured circumferentially)

Would very much welcome criteria for recovery conditions. (Incision

site is healing magnificently.)
