I too was worried and asked my doctor. He assured me that he was using

joints that have had great success for over 15 years and there has not been

major problems with them. If a product is recalled, it's a done deal you can

be sure of that. If the product is one that has been proven to be successful

for a long time, your doctor will know this and recommend it. Ask your

doctor to use what he/she would use on their own family.

I have two metal on metal hips so every ache or pain makes me nervous. But a

closer read of those articles indicates that the problems seem to be mostly with

hip resurfacing.

When I was having mine done 2 years ago, I asked the surgeon for resurfacing and

he said that he stopped doing them because they were turning out to have a lot

of problems.

There was someone on this board at the time who berated people for having total

hip replacements instead of resurfacing and it made me wonder if he had some

kind of agenda.

I had a THR July 11, I was concerned also but the Dr told me

the metal on metal was the bad one, I have medal on plastic and has been no

problems reported about this kind, don't be worried if you need a

replacement trust the Dr I am sure he knows the best for you

Eleanor:

Now that you mention it, the only friend of mine who is my age and has had

hip surgery twice and ready for the third had hip resurfacing by one of docs

recommended to be the best. So there might be something to what you've said

here. I also got the same imput from all three docs I screened before my

surgery.
