Guest guest
Good Luck to you, I am looking at both hips being done. Dr says 16 to 20 weeks out for the first one. I am nervous that it won't work well, leaving me in pain still. In a message dated 8/17/2011 11:50:51 A.M. Guest guest
The best of luck to you my friend. You're going through a journey most all of us here have experienced. The first couple weeks take the most energy from you, but rest up, follow the instructions and do your PT. You'll be fine! Guest guest
Have your support network in place, don't overdo it, follow your doctor's restrictions post-surgery. Had my surgery 4 yrs ago and it has made a world of difference. Good luck! > > relax, get plenty of rest, follow directions > > > > Big Day Almost Here > > > Well , next tuesday I am scheduled for Hip Replacement. Guest guest
Why so long being out? Is this a revision? Guest guest
I have Kaiser insurance and I have to get in line to have it done. Dr. K. Casey does the hip surgery at Park Sierra Hospital in Ca. He lines up about 30 patients and does a group orientation and then sets your dates. I go on the 26th to the orientation. Guest guest
Oh, do you mean 16 to 20 weeks until your surgery? That's better than being out for 16-20 weeks! Expect to be out 10-12 weeks before returning to work, give or take. > > > ** > > > > > > Good Luck to you, I am looking at both hips being done. Dr says 16 to 20 > > weeks out for the first one. Guest guest
I would guess it depends on the type of work you do for a living how long you are out. I have a job where I sit a good deal, but I'm up and down and back and forth quite a bit. I had both my hips replaced last year. Right one in March and left one in October 2010. For both my surgeries I was operated on with Direct Anterior approach, never felt the need to take narcotic pain meds (only tylenol and tramadol), was up on my feet that day, took showers at the hospital, did NOT go to outpatient rehab, was able to drive at three weeks and went back to work at four weeks post op. Besides the regular PT exercises, I found water exercises and water aerobics to be the most helpful for getting my strength back. Just make sure your incision is completely healed and you have clearance from your doc. This was the best thing I ever for myself. I have my life back now and don't feel like a total invalid anymore, can do almost anything and do not have any restrictions. My only regret is that I didn't find the doctor who performed my surgery sooner. Best of luck to you to for a quick and easy recovery! Guest guest
Hi Gayle, I also do dog training and I show my dogs in AKC Obedience. Just wanted to let you know that in the year after I had both hips replaced I put eight titles on my guys along with an outstanding showing at the National Obedience Invitational (NOI) with my oldest dog. Prior to that I couldn't move long or well enough to be an effective trainer. You definitely have some good things to look forward to. Judy McG > > WOW, That time frame sounds encouraging. Guest guest
Hi Debra, When I was first told that I needed to have my hips replaced I was really upset and it took a while to get used to the idea. Now I realize I shouldn't have waited so long for relief. Had both hips replaced in February 2010. Based on my experience, I have to say go for the Anterior Approach, if possible. The recovery is so easy and no restrictions. But whatever approach you choose, you will be glad you got them done. By the way, I have ceramic on ceramic.
