Guest guest
I had my TKR July 20th. I have tenderness and numbness, both, all over my knee. That is perfectly normal. My straightness is a few degrees off. This is my second TKR and my first knee (done Dec 17, 2010) is still improving. Devora > Has anyone else had a problem totally straightening their leg? I had my TKR on July 25th and am doing pretty well except for this. This is my last week of inhome PT, I start outpatient PT on the 22th of this month. I also have some tenderness on the inside of my knee. Any ideas or help will be appreciated. > > Lynne >
Guest guest
Hi Lynn, You seem to be doing well for one month out. My knee felt that same as your at that point.  However, I was lucky and always had full extension. I am sure your PT has given you exercises for this. The easiest one was to put a good sized book against a wall where you have something to hold on to. Stand on the book with the front part of your foot, and lower your heel. This will make your leg straighten. I have no idea if this will hurt or not, as I did it with ease, and couldn't understand why i was doing it until my PT told me. Getting the leg straight is important for standing and walking for longer periods of time. A close friend of mine has never gotten either knee straight, and she is still limited in her walking ability, so do all the stuff your PT is telling you to get it to 0 degrees. All the best, Joan ________________________________ From: Diva <ishtar_195416@...> Joint Replacement Sent: Friday, August 19, 2011 10:54 PM Subject: Re: Having a problem totally straightening leg  I had my TKR July 20th. I have no idea if this will I stand on the ladder in my pool and raise and lower my heels. An ex dancer showed me that exercise when I complained about foot pain. She also said to turn the toes in then out doing heel flexes. I never knew it would help to straighten my legs. One year post TKR and my DR measured 120 degrees flexion, he just asked if I could kneel and did not measure flatness. Said to keep trying to get more flexion by bending my knee and pulling it back and hold for one minute. I noticed that my other knee does not bend any more than my TKR knee. So I exercise it also. Next appointment is 4 years from now. On another list they claim 200 bounces on a re bounder triples the white cells plus helps with foot pain Brickey
Guest guest
My ability to straighten my legs came with time, doing the excercizes and I would do stretching with my leg extended and rotating my toes to move the muscles. For me when I started walking with a cane that seemed to help stretching my legs more since not knowingly I had kind of protected the surgery leg when I was still using the walker. TKR L 12/10/10 and R 2/17/11.
Guest guest
I had my done on the 20th also. I cannot completely straighten my leg yet but it is getting better. I am still having pain, though not nearly as bad. My knee is numb on the right side from above the knee to 2 or 3 inches below. SherryHH > > > > I had my TKR July 20th.
