Guest guest
Hi Gail, It's great to hear from you again! I was thinking about you when I visited the Compounding Pharmacy close to University Heights but in Cleveland Heights. Good to hear your children are doing well. That is so amazing that tought himself to read at age 3. Where does Diane and skate at? I skated for many years I enjoyed it very much at Brookpark Skateland. That's neat that Edwin helps the other kids with getting them to respond to his questions. It's really great when there is an outgoing family member who can encourage others like that. I am hoping to get a Mom's night out going for our group and I think next month in June we should try to get together with our group, wouldn't that be great? I'll be thinking of a day, time and place. Thanks for writting in, I'm glad you're still with us! Yours Truly, n ~~~~~~ gailbuf@... writes: I haven't posted in a long time, so I guess I'm "new". We live in University Heights. My name is Gail and my husband's name is Jim. Diane(17) and (6) are biological children, both autistic. Edwin(5) is adopted from Guatemala and is thankfully NT! Diane is mildly autistic, 17 years old. She goes to CEVEC (vocational program) part-time and attends high school the rest of the time. She is very verbal, but has problems with social interactions, eye contact. In some ways she is a typical teen and has lots of CDs of her favorite artists Beyonce and Aguilera. is moderately autistic/hyperlexic. He taught himself to read at age 3. is in a special needs kindergarten, and is mainstreamed with an aide for math, language, art. He does pretty well with that. Diane and particpate in Special Olympics roller skating. Diane participates in ice skating as well. Edwin is our NT child, entering kindergarten in Sept 2004. Hard to believe. Edwin is like a junior therapist for the older kids. Always asking them questions, getting them to respond, encouraging them to play games as well. Kind of neat to watch. Anyway, I look forward to participating again here instead of lurking so much. I would also love to get together in person with families in this group. Guest guest
I'm (32), my husband's name is (almost 28) and he's a Marine. I'm a SAHM. I have 2 daughters... is almost 4 and typical. Brigette is 25 months and diagnosed with moderate autism at 16 months. When she was diagnosed, she was at her worst..completely lost in her own world and hardly any eye contact..lots of stimming. She's improved a lot over the year. She has great receptive language. That child understands everything we say. But her expressive language is very poor. She seems very alert and attentive. She's never lost in her own little world anymore. Everytime we talk about her, we catch her looking at us. She absolutely adores her sister. In fact, we just discovered this last night... is the only one Brigette will allow to feed her. How weird is that? Everytime we pick her up, she immmediately searches for and starts laughing and babbling and jumping up and down with excitement. She has really poor oral motor skills. She hates anyone going near her face, especially her mouth. But we're working on this. She's the sweetest, most affectionate little thing. She loves being held and kissed and hugged. She never has temper tantrums or meltdowns. She's very easy going. She's been this way since she was born. She started regresssing around her 8th or 9th month. I really feel chelation is bringing her back to us. I had 8 amalgams for 20+ years that were breaking and leaking when I was pregnant with her. I remember a tooth breaking and chewing on the filling and swallowing it. I also had a tooth with amalgam pulled during her pregnancy. I had no idea they were dangerous. I think her 8 month DPT shot sent her over the edge. I never got her MMR shot or any others after 15 months. Anyway, I've been a member for a while now but just wanted to re-introduce myself. I think it would be a great idea if we all got together one day, like Gail suggested. n, you should set this up. lol. Sincerely,
