Guest guest
Hi there thank you for your response. I am having 1 knee done on the 16th of sept. not two at a time. I am glad your husband is doing well. I am most scared about the pain - now I go to the gmn three times a week to gain some strngth. I would love to be back to work aleast a couple hours a day after the second week, do you think that is possible, I am a strong person but have been on paid pills for years that don;t seem to work. I have had the same job for 17 years and had never had to be gone longer than two weeks. that it also a worry..Sorry for babling any info would and does help - Thank you from L.V Re: My upcoming knee replacement My husband who is only 42 had both knees replaced six weeks ago today. Like you he was scared to death but he was in horrible pain every day. We had to fight for five years to get them to do anything but shot cortisone into his knees or scope them. Once we found his current OS he let us know that all we could do is replace the knees regaurdless of his age. The day after his surgery they got him up to walk and once he was up and moving my husband said his knees did not hurt like they used to. He was in the hospital a total of three days before they sent him home. He was sent home with oxicontin and roxycodone and between them they managed his pain pretty well. by the second week he was only using one crutch. At his three week check up he was taken off the heavy painkillers and given lortabs.(he now only takes it before pt) By five weeks when he started pt in the clinic instead of at home they were very suprised to see him walk in with out crutches or a cane. We will find out in a few days when he can go back to work, but hope he can go back part time. He is still a bit week and gets very tiered. His surgery took four hours but that was due to having both done and also they had to take some screws from a previous surg out. When the OS talked to me after the surg he told me that my husband had the worst knees he had ever seen and he has been doing this for twenty years. Try to not dwell on the surgery to much. Just try to get everything ready and then take a deepbreath and relax. - In Total_Joint_ Replacement, " letstoy925 " <letstoy925@ ...> wrote: > > Hi, my name is Roe - I am in Las Vegas and have been scheduled top > have total knee replacement sept. 16th - I have so many questions I > don't know where to begin. Guest guest
, What work do you do? At two weeks post-op I was going to PT every day (so the scheduling is a pain) and I work from home at the computer and could sit there for an hour before I was too stiff and also so tired. I don't know which leg you are having done but if it's the right you won't be able to drive until week 7 or 8. Even if it's the left, you will still be on pain meds enough until about week 4 to not find driving easy. One of the things you will notice besides some pain (not as bad as before the surgery by week 2, usually) is being very tired. So being at an office all day will be debilitating. If you can work from home for a few hours each day, that is possible. I could have been in an office by week 4 or so. Re: Re: My upcoming knee replacement Hi there thank you for your response. Guest guest
Everyone is different. When I just had my 3rd replacement on my left knee (due to 2 infections) I was back at work nearly full-time after 2 weeks (5-6 hrs and working some from home) and driving on my own. Don't push, take your time, do what the dr says and work hard. You'll have to play it by ear and see how you feel. Even just having one knee done this surgery is very hard on you. At two weeks both my husband and my mother who only did one knee were taking a nap after any activity like pt. Dont worry about the pain. The doctors make sure its not to bad. Just take the pain meds and try to stay ahead of the pain. >> >> Hi, my name is Roe - I am in Las Vegas and have been scheduled > top >> have total knee replacement sept. 16th - I have so many questions I >> don't know where to begin. Guest guest
I think you'll be fine.can you elevate your leg slightly while at your desk.a stool, box or something.I found that sometime that helped rather than just having it down on the floor the whole time while transitioning back to work. Guest guest
, If you are able to go in for an hour, you can do it. At about day 10 (I had the surgery out of town, staying with my mother because of the doctor I wanted and then my husband came and drove me home) I was needing to do some work and my mother's house wasn't wired for high speed so I had my husband drive me to an internet cafe and though it hurt, I was able to sit on a couch and work for an hour. My knee/leg hurt and was stiff but I could concentrate enough to do that. I was still on the walker at that point so I didn't move quickly. But each day you feel a little better and have a little more energy.
