Re: MSM amounts & delivery

Herein, I have copied a few past comments below in a P.S.and offer some general

thoughts based on them that hopefully help those who are interested in doing

this protocol correctly. I have posted these previously, but maybe in other

forums:

Amount to take (dosage)and form: This all has to do with the individual. If

you are 25 yrs old, 2 gms/ day may do the trick and capsule form is probably

going to work for you. If you are over 55 or in poor condition, 2 gms/day is

just not going to change anything. How much you finally need to take is a long

term experiment. The way that you determine if you are up to speed can be best

determined by pain or lack of it. So if you are hurting, take more. Obviously,

if there are some forms that happen to be better this will all come out in the

wash. The stuff is cheap, so who cares.

Quality: we are told that some MSM sold is of low quality in terms of

contaminants. This, as you know is subjective for us because we have no way of

testing it ourselves other than reading the labels or what is listed on the

literature. One thing for sure, if you are not at the detox stage and it is

making you fell badly, it may be that you have gotten some bad bad stuff.

MSM as a Detox: If your body is full of toxins and heavy metals: You must start

out very slowly, because the other benefit of MSM is that it releases toxins.

That is great long term, but short term detoxing is a problem, so go slowly.

Basic Chemistry (I am not a chemist): MSM and DMSO are basically almost the same

thing, but MSM is the oxidized form and thus does do not pose the delivery

problems that DMSO does because it does not carry other chemicals with it at the

same potential rate. Again, basically, DMSO is radical and MSM is more tame,

because it is the oxidized form.

Texture and Taste: We are individuals and I actually have never had a problem

with the cold, slightly bitter taste that MSM delivers. Even if you dislike it,

if you are doing a huge scoop followed by water and swish it around, that goes

away quickly, because it basically numbs your taste buds like a shot of gin. It

is best adsorbed directly in the mouth, so capsules or mixed drinks are not

going to be as effective. That means that you will need more for the same

effect... and maybe a whole lot more.

Cost and Where You Buy it: I had forgotten that I had taken the flakes years

ago, but I did not like the consistency. I actually have taken all forms and I

have never noticed any difference in terms of effectiveness between them.

However, there could easily be differences. At the quantities that I have taken

them, though, who cares as long as they are pure? If you are taking 1/2 cup

per day and one form is 10% more effective, you will never know the difference.

The man who revealed its secrets to me almost twenty years ago is most certainly

dead now, but he was selling it by the rail car load for Horses. I wrote to him

directly and he agreed to sell me a few pounds for about $15. He and his family

used it and he told me most of what I have said above. At that time, the only

form commonly available was 1 gram capsules at places like Swanson Vitamins.

Today, my favorite choice is " Country Health Products " sold on ebay for pocket

change. I noticed that they recommend 5 gms/ servings. I guess you have to

start somewhere, but 5 gms is clearly a shot in the dark.

If I did not have so much on my plate, I'd probably write a book about this. It

needs to be done by someone. However, my main concern at this time offers far

more potential in changing your life than MSM or any specific health treatment

ever could and I say that in full consideration of how great MSM is as a healing

device.

Cheers,

Jim

P.S. Here are some answers to past discussions:

GOOD CHOICE>>>

I am at least confused on prices when it comes to MSM ... I would have simply

tried if it weren't something concerning my health ... I did find 1 Kg for about

$25.00 on eBay .. Powdered ...

Obviously, THERE ARE BARGAINS out there>>>

How good can I expect this to be.. On one side you have it at more than $60.00

per kilo and this for $24 ... That is a wide swing... Now considering how

plentiful MSM truly is .. It shouldn't cost that much but I would like the

opinion from those more knowledgeable about it

I was not ignoring, but Franz was not looking at the some picture that I was>>>

You're ignoring the fact that there is an alternative to the horrible taste...

make capsules, like I'm doing...

Creativity is a good thing, but here it has a cost>>>

My method of making msm palatable is I douse the flakes in my spoon with

Barlean's Olive Leaf complex, which I get from Swansonvitamins.com. It has a

peppermint taste and completely covers the msm taste.

Swallowing it in a drink is less effective>>>

I always ad a 1/2 teaspoon of Natural Calm Magnesium (raspberry/lemon flavor) to

every single glass of water I drink. I just started taking msm and have in

addition been adding a 1/2 teaspoon of it also to every glass of my magnesium

water and it tastes fine.

Good Find>>>

The answer... GOOD ENOUGH>>>

How good can I expect this to be.. On one side you have it at more than $60.00

per kilo and this for $24 ... That is a wide swing... Now considering how

plentiful MSM truly is .. It shouldn't cost that much but I would like the

opinion from those more knowledgeable about it

I was wrong here>>>

I have never used flakes, so that is not an issue.

Because you have never used them does not prove they are not superior.

And here also>>>

I had taken flakes years ago and discarded them>>> Powdered works just fine,

but I have no flakes to compare it to. Vastly inferior? If flakes are vastly

superior, that would be unfathomable.

I have done my homework, be well>>>

Like I said, maybe I overstated it, but the claim is there. Wish I knew how to

prove or disprove it.

If you have no joint problems YET, smaller doses are probably OK and Duncan's

Whey protocol may be enough as he suggests>>>

I don't have specific problems, but that's about what I've been taking. It only

takes about 30 minutes to make 100 capsules from the flakes I have. One the plus

side, I have found that if you take enough MSM, you will actually learn to like

it.

The granular form is superior to me by a long shot>>>

I don't know... maybe the powdered form doesn't taste the same. All I> know is,

I can eat/drink a lot of things that don't taste good when I know it is good for

me, but this stuff is just not worth it when there is an inexpensive

alternative.

Sorry to say that you are " absolutely " still missing my point, but I am

done with this topic for awhile.

There is only a cost to this if what is used as creativity is empty.

Such as if

it were mixed with Karo corn syrup or Aunt Jemima pancake syrup. I am

using a

product that has great health benefits to it also. So put together, it is a

great combination.
