Guest guest
Any reason at 28 years old you would not be an ideal candidate for a resurfacing implant rather than a full THR? The idea at your age is to preserve the bone for future use. A resurf would allow you to return to all sports and activities with no restrictions. Guest guest
Hi Ia m 28 and had a THR just under 8 weeks ago. I had to have a THR as I was born with a congenital dislocation of the hip that was not diagnosed until I was 16 months old. After extensive surgery, general wear and tear meant that at some point I would need a replacement. I made the decision after lots of pain, limited mobility and a long conversation with my fantastic surgeon, to have the replacement. Resurfacing was not an option. I was fairly active before I started getting pain and used to go to the gym, cycle and swim. I was unable to do this due to the pain towards the end before the surgery. My consultant has said that I should be able to return to swimming (not breaststroke for at least 3 months), cycling and gym work. He advised me against skiing, snowboarding, running, jogging and any other hard impact on the hip sports!! I hope this helps and if I can be of any other help please mail me. I know its a cliche but when you make the decision you won't regret it. Best wishes Hannah > > Hello, I am an avid tennis player and extremely active in > other sports > > including but not limited to: running, biking, soccer, swimming, > > hiking, snowboarding. > > I am anxious to hear from other people who had THR and play tennis > or > > any of the other sports listed. > > > > > > > > > > > > --------------------------------- > > Looking for last minute shopping deals? Guest guest
Hi I think you should investigate hip resurfacing. I was 37 when both mine were done here in UK (where it is the preferred treatment for young people). I was back riding my horse mounting from the ground at 9 weeks post op, I cycle, run, walk, climb and am quite fit. I know several mountain bikers, martial arts enthusiasts, and other extreme sports people who have gone back to their sports after resurfacing no problems. Have a look at http://www.birminghamhipresurfacing.com/ ... a trawl but read everything on this site http://www.activejoints.com/resurfacing.html a fantastic site, the author has one thr and one resurfacing I can find you an experienced surgeon near you, or at least give you the emails of some excellent surgeons who will give you a free email consultation of your xrays. If you can avoid thr and get resurfacing then it is the best thing you can do given your activity levels Best Wishes jane in Wales > > Hello, I am an avid tennis player and extremely active in other sports > including but not limited to: running, biking, soccer, swimming, > hiking, snowboarding. > I am anxious to hear from other people who had THR and play tennis or > any of the other sports listed. >
