Guest guest
Hi I had a TKR in 12/09. Before the left knee was replaced, I was having terrible pain in my right hip. That disappeared after the surgery. I may still have hip problems later on, but for now, it feels fine. The left knee put a great strain on my gait, and limping didn't help either my hips or my other knee. You should be fine after the hip surgery. Good luck! all the best, Joan ________________________________ From: crexjacobs <crexjacobs@...> Joint Replacement Sent: Tue, February 15, 2011 2:53:25 PM Subject: Hip Issue and Lower Leg Pain At age 40 I was recently diagnosed with congenital hip dysplasia. Progressively throughout 2010 I started with popping in the hip which has moved to pain. Reviewing the xray I've worn away most of the cartilage, and the OS that I saw is recommending a hip replacement. As of the last month I've been feeling stress in my left knee and ship. My question for those who've experienced pre replacement pain. Can the stress of a altered gait be causing the knee and lower leg pain? I live in Chicago and I'm trying to hold off on the surgery till the better weather arrives. Thanks Chris Chicago, IL
Guest guest
my left knee pain started after THR for the left hip on 71th mar2010. i never faced any pain or problems in my knees or hips before the surgery.it is an effect of the replacement.the knee pain appears after standing from a sitting or driving position.  Mustafa ________________________________ From: crexjacobs <crexjacobs@...> Joint Replacement Sent: Tue, February 15, 2011 4:53:25 PM Subject: Hip Issue and Lower Leg Pain  At age 40 I was recently diagnosed with congenital hip dysplasia. Guest guest
Absolutely, Chris. Your story is very similar to mine. I was diagnosed with hip dysplasia in my 40's also. I had pain all the way down to my toes. At night I would have a hard time sleeping because my leg ached, shin, knee, calf and two toes. I put off my surgery far too long - 5+ years, and finally went to the ER because of what I thought was a back issue causing sciatic nerve pain, but it was my hip also. But now I'm coming up on my one year post op anniversary next month, and getting my hip replaced was the BEST thing I ever did for myself! Don't wait to make a decision and set up your surgery. It often takes a couple months for them to fit you into their schedule, so your surgery would likely be in the spring anyway. Guest guest
A problem with one joint will cause stress in the others...... Before my hip replacement on 11.11.10 I didn't know which hurt worse. My right knee, my left knee, or my right hip. My OS decided to start with replacing the hip. He feels that you can rehab from a hip replacement with bad knees but not the other say around. So we did the hip. Before the hip replacement, I could not even walk across my own kitchen. Now I am out walking at least an hour a day. The 'fixed hip' has relieved 90% of my knee problems....both sides......I don't know as this is typical but it has worked wonders for me. Both knees are bone on bone but not stressed like they were before the knee replacement. BARB in Florida Hip Issue and Lower Leg Pain At age 40 I was recently diagnosed with congenital hip dysplasia.
