Guest guest
Happy new year everyone...Now I'm on to my next nagging question and dilemna:One of my concerns about thr on my right hip is that I have a problem with my left leg: 4 years ago I had spinal surgery to release the sciatic nerve from constriction, and though the surgery managed to lessen most of the pain, my left leg and foot are still not healed, and probably will never be. It turns out that the discs that were constricting the sciatic nerve were replaced with scar tissue, and the sciatic nerve was never really released. My left foot is numb/tingly, my left calf atrophied by 1/2, and during the night the achilles tightens up so much that I can hardly get my heel to the floor. Thus, my walk to the bathroom in the middle of the night is a little precarious, since the pain in my right hip is enough to cause a limp. MY QUESTION: I'm not sure how to relate all this to the DR. and what to ask for as far as some advice pre surgery. I'm worried about recovery, and the possibility of falling. If anyone has any ideas for how to approach the surgeon, and what to ask him for as far as preparation for surgery, or recovery issues following the surgery. One thought I had was to get some PT pre surgery, for help with this, or should I just wait until I get some in the hospital. Any idea, not matter what it says, would be appreciated. I just not sure how to approach this anxiety. thanks so much again, liselsurgery date: march 10Posted by: "lisel schwarzenbach" momzilla@... momzillato2Mon Dec 31, 2007 4:12 am (PST)Hi everybody...I've been reading for about 10 days everything that'sposted, and have some questions of my own that haven't been talkedabout yet. I was given the diagnosis and set a date for a total right hipreplacement to happen in March. I've been frantically touring theinternet about all this, and have a lot of questions answered but someare needing more information. WARNING: some are pretty trivial, butnonetheless, freaking me out! So first off: Any information you all may have about the ESSENTIAL"hardware" needs I may have to consider; ie, toilet seats, crutches, walkers, canes, clothing helpers, and anything else you can think of....thanks, and looking forward to "meeting" my fellow bionic jointrecipients. Guest guest
Lisel, I am a knee person but I am sure it works for all surgeries of this kind. Getting into as good physical shape before hand will pay big dividends afterward. I don't think you need to waste money with PT just write up an exercise schedule. You could go to the library and look for books on the subject for ideas. Walking, swimming, exercise machines, bicycling, rowing, push-ups, sit-ups, knee bend (OH, that might hurt!). That is my suggestion. As far as the back and nerves maybe a chiropractor just a thought. Let us know how things are going.
