Partners in Policymaking Develops Parent Leaders Partners in Policymaking is a national training program for parents of young children with special needs and adults with MR/DD to better prepare them to advocate for their own needs and to become involved in advocacy for improved services and systems. The Arc of Ohio will present this training during 2005 in the Central Ohio area through a grant from the Columbus Foundation and in partnership with the Down Syndrome Association of Central Ohio, the local chapters of The Arc, and Children’s Hospital.Training areas include:· History of Services· Inclusive Education· Service Coordination· Futures Planning· Technology· Employment· Supported Living· Systems ChangeIn addition to training, participants will have the opportunities to meet with the leaders in our state who implement public policy.For those who cannot participate in the group training, four of the areas are covered in a free on-line course.
