Guest guest
I have a son-in-law that needs his hip done. The Doctor he saw suggested resurfacing as he is 43? or so. I wondered if anyone here did a resurfacing or had any information about it. I know some of you youngsters here have had hips done. Would you recommend it? He has to have something done. He can hardly walk. He and his wife are getting a couple of opinions. Someone he talked to who is young and had his hip replaced, said he had a hard time finding anyone to replace because of his age. Thanks, Donna R

Guest guest
Hip resurfacing is normally only an option for younger people and normally men who still have sufficient cartilage left. I lost out on all three counts If you have the option then it is worth going for. The operation preserves bone stock so a hip replacement is still a fairly straightforward option at a latter time. There is also less risk of a post-op dislocation The possible down side is that they are metal on metal and therefore there is some risk of metal ions shedding - this may account for the earlier than expected need for revision surgery in many cases.
