Guest guest
Well, I haven’t had a knee replacement (will someday on both knees) but having had your TKR only two weeks ago, it sure sounds like you’re doing well. Have you begun PT yet? From everything I’ve read, progress is quite individual and PT is inevitable and a must for complete recovery. I had a left total knee replacement on 2/11 and feel I am doing quite well, pain wise. I am actually having more problems with pain and lack of sleep as I have had a big flair up in sciatica on my operative leg! If not for that, I would be really happy with my progress so far. I can walk without my cane for short distances and basically stopped using the walker on Sunday. I am getting about 90- 95 degree bend on the operative side and can step up a short stair or shower stall. I am down to pain meds ( 1 tablet) a couple of times a day and 2 at bed time. Does this seem to be fairly good progress to you veterans out there???? My doctor does not like the passive motion machines after surgery. ( I am thankful for that as the IV meds did not work well for me.) So I am wondering if 90+ degrees is good/ average or behind the loop ---if I had used the machine. Thanks, Jeanine in AZ Stryker knee on 2/
Guest guest
Jeanine, I think I missed your original post but your progress sounds good. I can't remember my bend at that point as it took until about day 18 before I even saw the PT person first. I did have CPM in the hospital but not sure what that has to do with IV meds. My doctor wanted six hours a day on the CPM while in the hospital but then he didn't want it used after that. Some people rent them. It's really not that painful so it doesn't need meds specifically to use as it actually feels nice. To that end, sounds like you are moving well. Did you have sciatica before the surgery? Otherwise, it could just be pain from the surgery. I had always had lots of leg cramps before TKR and still had them a bit after the surgery but now they are pretty much gone so it was definitely the way I had to walk with a bad knee that contributed to that. You will find your recovery making leaps each day. -----Original Message-----From: Joint Replacement [mailto:Joint Replacement ]On Behalf Of JWSent: Wednesday, February 27, 2008 1:05 AMJoint Replacement Subject: RE: Sciatica after TKR Well, I haven’t had a knee replacement (will someday on both knees) but having had your TKR only two weeks ago, it sure sounds like you’re doing well.
