Bill... I can't see that a 40lb back pack is going to affect your knee.

I used to wear scuba gear and that's a heck of a lot heavier although,

its only for a short while until I get into the water, I don't do it now

though.

Its not like you are going to be wearing a back pack every day of the week

indefinitely,

Many people who have joint replacements are way more than 40lbs over weight.

What I have concern is that if you are able to do all these things it might

be too soon,

for you to go get a new knee, also have you looked into knee resurfacing ??

I know they do that for hips, it might give you longer before having to get

a replacement.

thus not interfering what you want to do sport wise,

Most people I know who have had joint replacements, whether it be a knee,

hip, shoulder,

Do so because they have very limited mobility and have an extreme amount of

pain,

You couldn't do these extreme sports if you were in this sort of pain. you

would have already given it up

This is my opinion I'm not a surgeon only he can tell you what's ahead for

you. I've had 12 now

And I have had to modify my life accordingly. I still have fun, I swim, walk

and

Travel..although insurance has been a nightmare

took up craft too.don't bike ride as I go over the handle bars.

As for a new type of hip knee for sports I don't know anything about but it

would still be a prosthesis no matter what.

I think you really need to do a lot of research and speak to a few surgeons

before you decide what to do.

Like I said my surgeon point blankly refuses to joints on people continuing

to do extreme sports,

As he said they will be back for a revision in under 5 years.

Hi All

I can give up most of my sports in softball I have a lot of

power in my swing so I get the longest single in the league and then get a

pinch runner.

What I don't want to give up is the back backing I go once a month for the

weekend. My back is about 40 lbs. I'm fine on the hikes, but I do pay for

it at night.

I did see a TV commercial about a new hip/Knee replacement for active sports

people, does anyone know about this new hip/knee replacement

Bill
