Guest guest
Hi Wanda, and , Wanda, what a sweetheart you are to reach out with this kind of encouragement. This is why I love being here on these lists so much. I guess I could be out doing other things, but I doubt I could find as much satisfaction and joy doing anything as much as I love being here with all of you. I was thinking yesterday how I used to sit on my big recliner in front of the fireplace, looking out into the pine trees, watching the blue birds and squirrels, thinking I had died and gone to Heaven. But now, I rarely take the time to do that, and it is my choice, my preference, because being here with people with hearts so sharing and caring, so beautiful, feels even more like being right in the midst of Heaven. Being so appreciated for each moment I devote to all of you, there could be no greater reward in life. I just wanted to say how dear you all are to me! I had to express how much it touches me every time I see one of you write an encouraging word to another. You are right Wanda, as long as , or anyone else hangs out here to get the support, and as long as you keep the faith, in yourself and in your dreams, and as long as you keep on trying, breathing, drinking your water, etc. You will get there!!! You will get there, I just know you will! Most of us all want that quick fix. It took years to put the weight on and it will not come off over night. I truly started working out again in January, but I've been faithful to do something each day, even if it was only 15 minutes worth. I am also one of those very slow loosers. But for each half pound I loose or each 1/4" I delete from my body, although its not what I'd like to see, its still something. It's that much less of me that I have to worry about. And remember what Jesus said to his disciples, "If you have the faith the size of a mustard seed, you could move that mountain." Believe in yourself, believe in your faith, and you can do this. We all have faith in you. Keep up your good work. Wanda
Guest guest
I'm so excited!!!! I just took my measurements and I've lost 2.25 inches over all in the past 2 weeks. In the whole 6 weeks I'm down 5 inches overall, including the other thigh. I'm also 3 pounds less in scale weight right now. This is soooo cool. That means I'm not losing muscle right? Now except for losing a 1/2 inch in my chest I feel great about how it is coming off all over so uniformly. Jen ps. this is my 3rd challenge and I've lost 53 pounds so far. Guest guest
Hi le, That's great! You lost 11 lbs. I'm so happy for you. It is fine to break up the breaths throughout the day. I would start out with at least 20 before breakfast. Then break up the rest of them. It's best to do the breaths on an empty stomach. If you eat a snack or something small wait 20 min. or more before you breath. If it's a regular meal it good to wait about 2 hrs. I'm really tired today. I had planned to go out earlier, but I decided that I was too pooped. I did 40 breath stretches this morning and I washed some clothes. But that's about it. It's time to start preparing my Sunday School lesson for tomorrow and of course getting our clothes ready, getting in the shower etc. Have a great night and a great Sunday! Guest guest
Hello everyone! How is everybody doing? Well, I weighed this morning and according to the scale, I have lost a total of 11lbs YIppeee! I was wondering, does it matter if you don't do all the LL breaths at one time to lose weight, or can I break them up into the day? Lots of love! le
Guest guest
Hello Ellen! Nice to meet you! I am doing Weight Watchers as well and it is really working! I had a Cesarean section with my daughter who is now 2.5 years old and this weight has been so hard to come off and it's finally coming off! I'm so excited! I'm hoping that since I am now doing the LL that I will lose even more. Good luck to you and God Bless! le
Guest guest
I think you will find better results if you do a 20 minute workout of around 40 breaths at once and then do what you can throughout the day. That is what seems to have shown the best results on the board. Try to do them first thing in the morning on an empty stomach and you'll see dramatic results. > Hello everyone! > > How is everybody doing? Judging by the before/after pictures, no one has been photographed with that large of a weight loss. Any thoughts on this? Any suggestions for someone who has that much to lose? >> I have 70 pounds to lose, and I have been doing this for a month now, and I have lost 20 pounds. I changed my eating habits all together, and take supplements, I am in the gym 3 days a week weight training, and I do cardio everyday but Sunday. Lite cardio on weight training days and hard cardio (interval training) on my off days. I am shocked at the weight loss, but it is slowing, but mostly because I am building muscle now. I cannot begin to tell you the change in my heart most of all, but I think that started before the weight loss. Got to get rid of all the garbage in your life. Guest guest
The program can work for any amount of weight to lose. I've consulted with the fitness experts at EAS and they have advised that a safe goal for a 12 week period is 30 pounds. I've heard people very often doing more than that, but that's the safe, realistic goal for a 12 week challenge. EAS and Body for Life judges highly encourage sending in the Challenge packets back to back with your increasing progress. Some people that have had incredible weight losses and won the Challenge are Fred and Scurti (1998 Couples Champs), Jeff Maki (Top 10 finisher in 1998 whom you can find on the old 1999 Body of Work Challenge poster or old issues (1999) of Muscle Media in the Challenge ads showing the before and afters, as well as Dr. Osgoodby. If you buy a current issue of Muscle Media and look at the Body for Life ad toward the back with 4 pages of before and afters you are sure to find the " before " body that looks most like yours. I encourage you, as Bill did in the BFL book, to cut out the after picture you are striving for and put it up on your wall or bathroom mirror where you can visualize yourself transforming into that shape. #1 advice: LISTEN UP! Write down your goals. Make them specific. Use numbers of pounds of fat to lose, numbers of muscle to gain, inches to lose/gain, clothing size, etc. And put a deadline on it (12 weeks). A dream is just a dream. But a goal is a dream with a plan of action and a deadline. -

Guest guest
Peyton, There have been lots of people with way more than that to lose. You just don't see their photos because 1) they never sent them in - or - 2) they did not win. But they are on here and many of the other boards that talk about Body for Life. With 150# to go, keep in mind that to lose 1 - 2 pounds a week which is the safe limit recommended, it will take more than one 12 week challenge to get to your goal. But many of us on here are on our second and third challenge and still loving it. Come join us! ~Laury
Guest guest
HooHOOOO, CB! That's great! My sister lost 115 in a year eating ER4YT style, but confesses to have also basically starved herself--not a good thing. As a result, she's regained some and still struggles to find a food plan she's really willing to live with. The good news is that the only time I've reached and maintained my normal weight for extended periods has been when for one reason or another I minimized carbs and dairy and had plenty of exercise. Is exercise part of yourplan? I'd love to lose a bunch too, but so far have had to be satisfied with not gaining, meanwhile enjoying the peaceful quiet in my guts and the reduction in bloat, and the lack of pain in my joints--difficulties I didn't have to this degree when I was younger. My blessings to you as you come into the body you were borne to enjoy. My mother is a personal trainer in an all strength training one on one facility (Long Island, NY). By building muscle you are helping your body's ability to burn fat at rest. If you were to look at a model of a body covered in nothing but muscle, and one covered in nothing but fat - the one covered in muscle looks closest to a actual human being, while the other looks like something out of the Cantina Scene in Star Wars. Your body favors muscle, but it isn't going to get abnormaly pumped up without the help of steroids and/or testosterone. Besides - " manly " chest excercises are natures way of giving you a boob lift. And if anyone is shaped like me (big on bottom), doing " manly " upper body exercises help create a better hourglass shape. I have yet to see any woman get insainly stupid huge from doing strength exercising who did not WANT to be that way. Women naturaly tend to gain lean muscle mass, it takes some extra chemical influence, and painful hours at the gym to bulk it up. But if you work out your whole body intensly, and give a days rest inbetween for your muscles to repair - it is highly unlikly that you will have " bulging muscles " . I hate to see women not gain thier full potential based on this myth... better to not gain it because your like me, and totaly lazy. (I havn't worked out in weeks. Bad me.) Guest guest
HI Melinda in Montana, I have been on this diet for 3 years and have slowly lost 50 pounds over that 3 years. I use the Total Gym 3000 every day for 20 minutes for strength exercising. Don't want bulging muscles so I don't do the " manly " exercises. Just stretching and flexing kinds. Good Luck to you and your sister. I don't starve myself, that is why the weight loss is so gradual. I eat until I am full with all of these wonderful foods on the Highly beneficial lists. Guest guest
Hi CB, Thanks for the reply. I agree, slow is the only way to go. I too felt the best when I did some upper body strength training. Finding a way around single parenting two teenage boys, a geriatric dog, and two jobs still eludes me but I'm thinking about water filled jugs in graduated weights and maybe a tread mill because I love to walk but it's too dang icey around here much of the winter. Again, thanks. Melinda in Montana

Don't get hooked on the scale and enjoy your journey! aW Weight Loss This is my first time posting to the post op site. My name is Alisha Ackerman. I had the MGB by Dr. Rutledge on July 31, 2002. I have lost 26 lbs. as of today. I am extremely pleased. My question is what hints can you give me to help maximize my weight loss? I am walking on the treadmill (30-45min/2-3 miles) 5 times a week. I am eating mostly vegetable soups, yogurt, watermelon, and 1/4 cup of mashed potatoes or fat-free refried beans with cheese. My college reunion is in Oct. and I would like to lose 40 more pounds by then. I know it is a lot. Am I being unrealistic? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Guest guest
Hi Alisha: I don't know if that is realistic or not because that is a lot to loose that fast. I would concentrate on being healthy and let the weight take care of itself. When is the reunion in October? Continue to exercise and eat properly and you may just make it.
