Angie - Just a quick thought. You mentioned the school just finished their MFE. Perhaps the next step for you is to ask for an Independent Educational Evaluation. Obviously, your school district doesn't know enough about spectrum kids if they didn't do a pragmatics speech evaluation. Now is the time to let someone knowledgable to test your son. Just my 2 cents worth before bedtime!!----- Original Message ----- From: The Marotta Family Sent: Monday, May 09, 2005 9:55 PMSubject: Re: P.S. Re: [ ] My introduction - It's a shame that you would have to resort to spending money on an advocate just so that your son gets the education that by federal law is his right!! I don't know if you are thinking lawyer when you say advocate, but those guys are so expensive!! Too bad that money can't be spent on supplemental ST or OT or something like that!! Whether you hire an advocate or not, now is the time to be pouring over those MFEs. Do you have the most recent MFE that they just completed? Have you had a chance to compare it to the first MFE the school did before they started services for your son? Hey, some listmates are talking about getting together on Sat. May 14th for a picnic at a park. If you (and your son) can make the outing, maybe we could go over the MFEs together. Of course, if I bring any of my kids, I'll have to wait til they fall asleep before I could do anything other than chase them!! LOL! I could bring my slaw books as well - they outline what the federal law is. I also have in-laws in Brook Park. I seem to remember you saying something about living near the airport. Maybe sometime we could meet at a library nearby, if you'd like to go over the IEP. Marotta----- Original Message ----- From: Biehl Sent: Monday, May 09, 2005 2:46 PMSubject: Re: P.S. Re: [ ] My introductionHi , I think we may have no other choice in hiring an advocate. Dylan has not met his IEP goals from this past year and we requested an IEP meeting in writing to dicuss his MFE and still no response. With the end of the year upon us we need somethings in place from the school for summer. I did not know until your last letter that there were these types of tests that the school did not do. I am hoping the school has a response by week's end or we are calling an advocate to help us out because I am not sure of all his rights. The Marotta Family <marottafamily@...> wrote: - You are considering hiring an advocate? Is the school really being a bear about giving your son services he needs? Also, you told me earlier that the school had recently finished his MFE. Did your original letter also request evaluations? Perhaps the school feels they already responded to your original letter by doing the evaluations. Marotta
