Guest guest
I was told I could have surgery to clean out the knee or have the shots. I had already had the cortisone shots in my knees a few times (which worked and I decided that for me, it was only delaying the inevitable. I decided to stop putting off the surgery and go for it and get it over with. I was glad I did. While I know this might not be for everyone, it was a good decision for me. I figured I wanted to just get it over with. That is also why I had both knees replaced at the same time. I had no complications, no problems with my recovery and my physical therapy was not painful. I guess I was very fortunate. Everyone has to do what is best for them. Oh, and my kneecaps were involved also. My surgeon said he cleaned the arthritis off the back of them and glued a plastic layer on them before replacing them in my knees. (age 63 at time of surgery) Pat in Pennsylvania Bilateral TKR August 2010 [Norton AntiSpam] New to the group My doctor suggested that I try Orthovisc injections, one a week for 3 weeks. Did anyone have luck with these? It seems like there is so much to learn if I end up having TKR. I would like to believe that the injections will work but I think I am headed for the surgery as my knee is almost bone on bone on the medial side and the kneecap is also involved. Guest guest
As far as i knew they did not offer cortizone or any clean out surgery to those like i was, who needed TOTAL Knee Joint Replacement. I AM sure they do offer both to folks needing the non total types of knee replacements. Then again I read that some docs will do partial joint replacements but others rather replace the total knee even when only half needs replacing. I asked years ago about if I could have debri cleaned out with a surgery but was told not possible for me for I needed the TOTAL Knee replaced-nothing short of that. And I guess Synvisc did not exist back then yet. L > > I was told I could have surgery to clean out the knee or have the shots.
