The Challenging Behavior seminar can save the day! With her 25 years of experience as a child care director & teacher, author Barbara Kaiser has walked in your shoes & knows what works & what doesn’t. BARBARA KAISER is the co-author of "Challenging Behavior in Young Children" and "Meeting the Challenge". She teaches in the Education Department of Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, Canada. Barbara has a firm theoretical foundation, but above all her perspective is practical, realistic, and compassionate—stemming from more than two decades of working directly with children in real situations. As the director of child care centers, her programs became well known for practices which empower children and help them learn how to make meaningful choices. As part of NAEYC's "Supporting Teachers, Strengthening Families" project to prevent child abuse and neglect, teachers across the country identified the need to have further professional development in working with children with challenging behaviors and strategies to talk with parents about these behaviors. Ohio AEYC and The Ohio Children's Trust Fund are collaborating to bring knowledge of the "Supporting Teachers, Strengthening Families" project to Ohio. (For more information on the project, click on the website link below.) In support of this initiative, we are pleased to meet the identified needs of Ohio’s early care and education community through this seminar. Phase 2 of Ohio's "Supporting Teachers, Strengthening Families" project will provide the opportunity for participants in these seminars to apply for mini-grants of up to $5,000 each to support their program's efforts to strengthen parent-teacher relationships. Details will be announced in Spring 2006. CHALLENGING BEHAVIOR SEMINAR CONTENT:"Understanding & Responding to Challenging Behavior"If you’re like most of us, you feel frustrated and defeated when confronted with a child with challenging behaviors. The daily struggles sap your energy and joy in teaching. You worry that you’re failing not only that child and his family, but the rest of the children in your group as well. Early intervention is key when working with children with challenging behavior. This seminar will help you understand why a child behaves in a particular way and provide practical and effective strategies to respond effectively to challenging behavior.Talking to parents about a child’s challenging behavior can be one of a teacher’s most difficult jobs. Barbara will share lots of tips for connecting with parents and creating a team approach to solving challenging behaviors."WHAT CAN I DO FOR MY CHILD?" WORKSHOP CONTENT:A Workshop For ParentsAre you struggling with your child’s challenging behavior at home? If so, attend this workshop to learn new strategies and network with other parents.
