MUCH more than normal, and trust you won't expect it to continue at any rate like that. Are you still on liquids and such? Hey, at least you listed your husband before the pets... :-) Let us know more. dan Wednesday, February 27, 2008, 11:57:45 AM, you wrote: > Hi i am also new to this group. i had my band put on 1-30-08 and > have lost about 30lbs. so far. i go back to the dr. today and it may > be more. i am not sure. Guest guest
SO far I am still wondering, did I do the right thing, or should I have had Gastric bypass? But, I fel overall I am starting to do good now. -- Re: New to the group Welcome! You have lost a lot of weight since your band. I was banded Feb 6 2007 and I have lost 50 lbs and feel great. My band has all of a sudden sort of re-engaged after a period of being able to eat almost anything..so now I have to watch certain foods. It was the best decision of my life. Guest guest
Thank you Dan, I am hoping I can lose more and more weight soon! -- Re: New to the group Hi there Buffy/Freda, Sounds like you're doing well. Sometimes that is tough, especially if you're an old geezer like me (you're age of my youngest daughter, who just gave us latest grandbaby). Anyway, do your best to NOT get stuck and to not slime or barf. The quicker you get that straight the happier you and your band will be. > Anyway, about me. I am 28, I live in Virginia. Guest guest
well, i knew that i didnt want the bypass. at duke the experience is that the bypass patients lose twice as much the first year, but usually the lapband patients catch up the second year....and the lapband patients have a history of maintaining the weight loss longer, as far as their statistics go. i also think that a slower weight loss is easier to maintain and if you exercise during the time, it helps keep the skin tighter. i hope you keep on being successful! Guest guest
Hi Angel, Your family will proabaly settle down if you start sharing with them your research, these posts, etc. YOU ARE and will be in good hands. I was just banded on March 8. A week and a half later, I have healed incisions, and waaaay less appetite than ever before in my life. Even my skin feels smoother. I am down more than 10 pounds- NOT that this is the measuring stick at this time. With the band, the weight loss is generally enhanced after 2-3 fills to find the "sweet spot." Ask away. This is a great place to come with questions, concerns, etc. Feel free to PM me (email me) as well. WELCOME!!!! angelgrice <angelgrice@...> wrote: Hello. My name is Angel. I am new to the group. Guest guest
Angelgrice, Be strong against your family, mine gave me loads of crap too...They will eat their words eventually ... I have lost right at 70 pounds and went from a tight size 18 to a size 4/6...Now they all give me compliments and are now firm belivers in the Lap Band... Going to MX was the best thing I ever did for myself...And my husband just went Feb. 26th and was banded... It is a great tool everyone should have it...There would be no obesity problems if we all had it... Don't be worried with using Dr. A. he is the best along with the other doctor's and the hospital staff are the best...The hosiptal is very nice & clean...There is no reason for you or your family to worry but we all have done so and found out it was unwarranted... Congratulations for going for it...You won't regret it... Rena angelgrice <angelgrice@...> wrote: Hello. My name is Angel. I am new to the group. Actually, Today is my first day. Make sure to ask all our questions or just let us know you need support, that's what we are here for! Good luck with your surgery on the 1st. You are in perfect hands and I know you will be happy you decided to make this decsision. LOTS of us caught grief for having surgery in Mexico. Just ignore the nay-sayers and keep doing what you are doing. You will soon, be able to say "I told you so" If you want to look at my blog, I talk about my journey and dealing with a lot of very close family that didn't support my desires. Again, good luck!! Guest guest
Angel, Welcome to our board. You will find this group very supportive and helpful. You have made a decision after careful and informed research, I'm sure. Reassure anyone with negative feelings that you would not ever place yourself in any danger in making such an important decision for yourself. Further, advise them that the USA is not the only place in the world in which good medicine is practiced. You are not going to some hovel where there are unsanitary conditions with unskilled and uneducated practitioners. You have chosen a fine hospital, with outstanding and well-qualified surgeons with an efficient, caring, helpful staff. You will receive the finest medication attention available. I was accompanied by by sister, who is a retired surgical nurse. She was most impressed with the Mexicali staff and the Almater hospital. It is one of the cleanest places you can ever imagine. Remind your critics that there are many places within the boundaries of the US that you would not choose to visit or have medical treatment. Look around any town in any state and you can find examples. We congratulate you on decision. You will be so pleased with yourself and so will your family and friends as you lose weight and feel better. All the best! Guest guest
Hi, my name is Janice, and I had my surgery done in mexico by Dr.A, as we all call him, his staff and team are great, the hospital is the cleanist hospital you will be in, someone is always cleaning there, my advice is the only reason your family is giving you crap is because they are concern about you, but at the same time, this your life's journey and you need to make it about you and not them, so go on and get the surgery and you will not regret it. You are going to meet new friends and people that are going though the same thing that we all went though and are still going though. I just returned from mexico on the 13th of this month for my first fill and everything went fine, and everything is going be alright for you. Guest guest
Hello Anne Welcome to our Forum and I really do hope you get all the help and support you so obviously need. I am pleased to hear you are reading all the files, but please don't worry if you can't remember everything you read, they are still there and you can go back and re-read them whenever you feel it is necessary. You need to ask your GP to give you a full thyroid function blood test. This will include Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) Free Thyroxine (FT4), Free Triiodothyronine (FT3), a test to see if you have antibodies to your thyroid and at the same time, ask her to test your ferritin level (stored iron). When you have had these tests, you can ask for the results when they come back from the laboratory and post them on this forum, but remember to also post the laboratory reference range for each test too. Sadly, if your results are returned within the so called 'normal' reference range many NHS doctors just tell you that you do not have a thyroid problem, but they are not taught how to interpret them properly. With such a long illness, it is very likely that your adrenals have become stressed and these may need boosting. Did you do the Adrenal Questionnaire in our FILES along with the Candida questionnaire? If not, I would suggest you start there and see how you score. You can get confirmation of where your cortisol and DHEA levels are at 4 specific times during the day by having a 24 hour salivary adrenal test done. You can get this done through NPTech Services and you will see a list of the tests and prices they charge in our FILES too. Scroll down until you see NPTech Services. Go to our website www.tpa-uk.org.uk and click on 'Hypothyroidism's and in the drop down menu, click on 'Associated Conditions' and you can read all the information about diagnosing and treating Candida Albicans and Adrenals. There is a lot of reading, but if you do have hypothyroidism and it is this that is causing you your problems, then the more you know about this disease, and the more you learn how you can help yourself, the sooner you will start to get better. I hope you can get a referral to Dr Skinner. He is an excellent doctor. Luv - Sheila Hello everyoneI've just joined and have been trawling through the files. I have avery high score for the hypo checklist but also for the candida (hadseveral courses antibiotics for bladder tumour several years ago). Ihave been on an anti-candida diet before and felt much better generallybut many of my symptoms didn't go - like the bi monthly fatigue,hair/eyebrow loss.My main 'disabling' symptom is fatigue in varying degrees. I struggleevery day, waking up fatigued and sometimes having to lay down again. Often my breathing is affected and I get a 'shaky tiredness' which onlygets worse until I sleep, sometimes for hours. at it's worst I amunable to wake up or move but can hear and recall conversations/TV progsetc. When like this - even when I awake - my right eyelids droops, myvisions blurs/doubles and I cannot join in a conversation. If my(right) eyebrow has regrown I lose it again when like this. When it'sreally severe I can lose both eyebrows. My muscles go weak so that I amunable to walk. I 'age' twenty years , until it passes and then I startto look better. I have been like this for 26 years with no help at all.I lost all my body hair way back then. I have no idea what I have beentested for but am hoping to see Dr g. S. and have asked my neuro torefer me.MS was suspected but ruled out but apart from that I have not been toldanything - my treatment has been appalling really. I have lost feelingin several places and having buring sensations, am gaining weight (upto 14 stone now despite good 'ol slimming world) and have a low bodytemp mornings and even lower in the afternoon when I crash. I will beicy cold even in the hotest weather until around 5 - 7pm when all of asudden I'll warm up.I have terrifying choking fits and so stiff in the mornings that Isometimes cannot get up unaided.I'm rather worried in case my neuro refuses to refer me and not surewhat other options I may have so any ideas would be welcome (the answersmaybe in the 'files' so I'll carry on reading - trouble is I forget somuch lol). I've lost all my adult life to this fatigue and am ready nowto do anything !thanks for readingAnne No virus found in this incoming message.Checked by AVG. Guest guest
Hi Betty, Welcome to CI Hear. The group has been unusually quiet lately so I hope you liven it up a little. <smile> I know Dr Lee is a great surgeon and UMass is a great place to go for your follow up. It's also exciting to read that you are considering the other ear. It's great to hear with the CI and I'm excited for you. Guest guest
Hi All, I scan these posts every now and again to see the latest issues and developments. In this case I want to weigh in with advice for anyone carrying spare T-mic's for the Advanced Bionics BTE's. I have had 7 T-mic's ruined by the x-ray machines at airports over the past few years. AB never warned of this problem for the older model BTE users. I have heard that the newer models have a warning included in the microphone packaging but mine never had that warning. So, ask for hand inspection of spare mic's. Never let them go thru the x-ray machine!!!! the walk-thru metal detector is fine, but not the carry on X-ray machine. Hope that helps
Guest guest
Hi Betty. I've been on 3 or 4 plane trips with my CI. I just walk through the metal detector with my CI on. I've never been sent back. Of course, it would be prudent to carry on extra batteries just in case. At the gate, I usually ask to be pre-boarded since it is hard to hear the PA announcements clearly. I have been refused only once, and complained to the airline for that and other non-CI related incidents. Have no fear. You'll do just fine. bjean1944 <bjlfalm@...> wrote: Thanks Alice, and now I Do have a question for the group.
