Guest guest
Janet, That is just so great. We all have different goals of course, but for most of us, I think speech discrimination is pretty high on the list. It's just, so, so worth it. Congratulations, and many easy conversations ahead! Guest guest
Janet, This is wonderful news to hear. I know you and your mother will have many more happy conversations together. I think I can understand your mind bogging,as I had that same experience when activated. Keep us posted on all your new CI moments. Guest guest
Janet, That is wonderful news! I had a good feeling that this would happen but I did not want to say anything in case it did not happen and I did not want you to feel disappointed. I was very careful not to have any hopes or expectations on my activation day! Perhaps that is why I feel that I did so well! A.

It really makes me excited to read these stories as I am going to be activated on March 17th. I realize I need to keep my expectations low and my hopes high though. Guest guest
Janet, I had tears in my eyes reading this. I can just imagine how wonderful it is to be able to converse easily with your mom and how special that is for both of you. I hope that the CI enables me to understand my sister and brother more easily. Neither of them are easy for me to lipread and neither of them ever really " got it " about me being HI. I do wonder if our relationships will get better if understanding them is easier after getting the CI. in SC

Guest guest
Hi, This is such a nice post to read. You are living proof that this works. You were honest and said it wasn't easy, and that you had some nausea. So people who are thinking about this will know the truth. I think it is fabulous that you have lost 105 pounds. Congratulations to you, you must look fabulous. Have you posted any pictures yet? You should motivate people who are on the fence about having this surgery done. Guest guest
Got home from hospital last night after my HM. Still have a bit of pain getting up out of bed and very tired but onto sloppy food diet now. , I can't believe how long you were on liquid diet for! and you were right about filling up quickly, its a bit uncomfortable. I'm trying to eat every two hours just to keep nutrition up. Surgery seems to have gone well, although my surgeon said he had to cut 8cm above and two below the cardiac sphincter- more than usual- because of all the scarring from dilatations (only had 4) and right into the mucosa wall. Had naso-gastric tube an drain tube afterwards which were the most distressing. Most of the meds they gave me caused nausea as well which was worse than the pain so I gave them up and opted for paracetemol and no nausea. Can't wait for real food, the smell of toast drives me insane! The recovery has been more than I expected but each day is a little more improvement, I'm looking forward to claiming my life back. Good luck and best thought for all those aout there working hard each day through this. Dr. Rosemurgy was amazed about how good my belly button had healed. He made Dr. Ross come in and look. I am now on soft foods and can progress at my own pace as I am comfortable. He advised to take small bites, chew well, and drink liquids. He emphasized that they only loosened the LES and there is nothing they can do for the motility issues of the esophagus. I am allowed to fly to Philadelphia next week and can go to Disney World at the end of the month with no ride restrictions. I do, however, have to wait 3 more weeks before touching a golf club. Overall, I am happy and satisfied. I hope it stays open for a long time. Thanks to everyone for the kind thought, prayers, and well wishes. Add me to the list of success stories. Guest guest
Hey , congratulations! I only meant steroids and leukotrine inhibitors for a few days pre and during desens. Otherwise I would think only if/when essential or decided on with yr MD. Anyhow good luck with the aspirin.Sent from my iPhoneOn Jul 27, 2010, at 2:55 PM, Whitbread <sarahwhitbread@...> wrote: Hello All,I can hardly believe it but I reached 600mg this afternoon. I reacted a little to the 100mg, with a drop in lung function of about 20%, but I wanted to persevere, despite thinking worse was to come and then plateaued at 300 and 600. It's very odd, at 300 I could feel the tightness in my ears and chest subsiding slowly and I suddenly had a feeling it might work. So tomorrow I start with 300mg dispersible in the morning and afternoon and 30mg of Lansoprazole which I'm told will help my stomach cope with the aspirin. So thank goodness so far, I hope I will continue to improve. And thank you for your wishes and thoughts, it's helped so much and made me feel more positive about what might be possible.Joan, I'm still taking Accolate, as I tried singulair a few years ago and thought I developed tinnitus as a result. Accolate was a great help at first but although the polyps returned I've stuck with it as it has helped eased my asthma somewhat. I used a nebulizer and antihistamines yesterday at Guy's for the 60mg reaction before I was sent home. Are you using corticosteroids and leukotrine inhibitors during desense and does your practitioner have a nebulizer, inhaler, benadryl and more steroids available? If you read the recently posted piece on protocol it may help. Also a number of us reacted at a higher dose than 100 mg-- doesn't sound like your case but I just wanted to point this out. It would be a shame if you weren't able to be desensitized because you weren't properly helped through what is a standard reaction. I wish you well tomorrow. Densens Day 1... Hello All, Just back from Guy's, I reacted to 60mg and had to leave early, with tightness in my chest, sinuses and ears. Feeling shaky and a bit despondent, was hoping at least to make it to 100 (the next doses there are 300 and 600mg). Back there tomorrow where they'll start on 60 again and go from there. Does anybody have any advice? Am hoping this is a blip and I'll cope with the other doses. Thanks,
Guest guest
I had a total knee replacement on Jan 11, 2011. I had MANY moments of " why in the world did I do this - it hurts so much worse " . But I did all the rehab anyways. Now I'm 3 months out and feeling incredible. Did a full day of walking and playing outside. There is NO pain! I feel terrific! So glad I had it done.
