Guest guest
Hi Lucinda, What exactly is a " still knee " ? I can't sleep without it propped up on a pillow. It's too painful otherwise. Maybe I need one of those body pillows they sell in the store. I can't sleep for more than 3-4 hours a t a time because it gets uncomfortable and starts to throb. I wasn't told anything about the pillow at night so i didn't think it was bad. I will ask my doc today when I see him. I have to see him about the infection. I just got back from PT so I feel a little sore. I am taking ibuprofen for the inflammation and it helps. Louise From: savannahbreezes <savannahbreezes@...> Subject: Re: Hi Everyone! Joint Replacement Date: Monday, July 21, 2008, 9:08 AM I had my TkR on 6/17 and I still have days when I am sore and my knee will not bend Like I need it too. I takes time and lots of PT to get you back to where you want to be. AS to the pillow under your knee, unless the pillow goes from your heel to your hip, don't put one just under the knee. My doctor warned me of this over and over as it will cause to have a still knee. I found sleeping hard at first, but I took a king size pillow and put it between my legs and turned on my un operative side and this worked for me. At first I had to have my husband push a pillow under my back to keep me from rolling off my side. Now I can do without the second pillow. We are all different and what works for me may not work for you, keep trying and talk with your doctor or PT about sleeping Hope things get better for you. I know they will as soon as you get the infection cleared up. Good luck Lucinda
Guest guest
I know doctors don't like you sleeping on a pillow but I just couldn't do without it and ultimately, it didn't harm me at all. My knee works fantastically. I used an extremely flat pillow under my TKR leg, just enough to cradle it and feel soft as I slept on the couch. I do still sleep with a pillow between my knees now in bed 20 months later to cushion what are now bony knees instead of swollen knees. And I can't take ibuprofen because I have ulcers so I only could take Tylenol. Re: Hi Everyone! Guest guest
Well, I was 43 when I had the surgery, 45 now. I still wish I could lose more weight (climbed up when I was in pain) but I have very little pain or stiffness. Every once in a while, I guess I overdo some movement or another and find myself with a little soreness in the surrounding tendons/ligaments. Sometimes I'm stiff but it only takes two steps to work it out. I still have OA in lots of other joints so some days I move slowly because of that but at Christmas we went to Disney World and walked almost non-stop for 10 hours a day, six days so my knee clearly works. I can get down on the floor, I can sit cross-legged on the floor (though not forever, have to straighten my leg some times) Overall, I've been really pleased. I have the Zimmer gender knee and had the less-invasive surgery. [Total_Joint_ Replacement] Re: Hi Everyone! Guest guest
Tigs, You've already had a TKR? My quad on the TKR leg is still a little weak but since I have no pain in the knee now, I am able to continue to strenghten it. I know the six month point post-op was when I really started feeling pretty normal and at a year, like I had a much better knee than before the surgery. My PT probably lasted altogether just over two months post-op. At first it was every weekday, then by the end was twice a week. Then I went back to the gym I had been going to and used their machines to do much the same thing and kept walking. [Total_Joint_ Replacement] Re: Hi Everyone!
