Guest guest
Hi there. you are right on target with your pain. So many people complain about not being able to sleep, they say, " Well, it doesn't hurt that much, I just can't get comfortable.... " I am a PT, and I can't tell you how many times I've heard this.... Well, now that I've been the PATIENT I understand.... I am 8 weeks out on my second knee joint replacement, and I have felt it too. Sometimes it feels almost like restless leg syndrome, little fluttery muscle cramps on the top or the back that come and go. Sometimes they are painful but mostly they are annoying. For a long time too, I couldn't lie on the opposite side to the knee surgery, too much twisting of my new knee. I think it is part of the soft tissue healing and also may be a circulatory issue too. Just my theories. The only relief I have found is gentle stretching (not the hard stretching), and heat. I found those stick on pads that keep warm for 8 hours or so immensely helpful. Sometimes using both cold and heat, cold first, also works, like contrast baths. You should wait until you are off the blood thinners before you use heat but that is usually around 1 month anyway. I am still experiencing this, only in different muscles around my knee, for instance lately I've been working maybe too hard on stretching my hamstrings so they are sore and the flutters and cramps wake me up at night. Just thought it would help you to know how " normal " this feeling is. I know it's hard to heal when you are losing sleep like that. Guest guest
thank you for your comments.. it makes me feel like I'm not the only experiencing this.. you would think they would come up with something to help with the sleep though.. It can't be good for people to lose so much sleep and the doctor expects you to be back to normal within 6 weeks.. Thanks again > > I had total knee replacement surgery about a month ago, and while > > the pain is subsiding from being bad, I am only able to get about 2 > > to 3 hours of sleep a night. Guest guest
Yeah, , you'd think they would. Ambien and Lunesta were no help at all. I'm dealing with a lot of shoulder pain at night too, blew my shoulders being on crutches and the walker so much before my surgery and in the 2 weeks after. It's frustrating, because we DO need sleep to heal. Guest guest
I USED to sleep with my leg propped up on pillows.? My TKR was in Jan.? I fell about 5 weeks ago and dr thought i had cracked my knee cap.? had bruises fro 2 weeks.? His exray was broken so had to go back a couple days later.? I have extensive soft tissue damage.? I feel I am back to 6 months out of surgery.? I ahve no trouble sleeping most of the time, but with our weather the arthritis in the other knee, hip and ankle are sore.? The TKR knee still hurts if I am on it for long periods and have to keep getting up and down or in and out of car.? At times i wish i had never had it done.? Dont think i have had a day without pain in the last 5 months, worse pain then just the bone on bone i had before. Any one else have this problm Re: recent knee replacement surgery issues thank you for your comments.. it makes me feel like I'm not the only experiencing this.. you would think they would come up with something to help with the sleep though..
