Hi everyone! Just wanted to update you to let you know it looks like

I'll be having my knee manipulated next week. My last home PT visit was

today and I am only up to 75 ROM....I was able to do 80 on Weds. but,

my knee was swollen today. I had one done on my right knee after

replacement two years ago and it really helped, but it's just that

word " manipulation " that makes me nervous. My PT thinks that because I

had previous surgeries before the replacement that I have alot of scar

tissue so, that needs to be taken care of. I have noticed that alot of

people that I know who have had knee replacement with no previous

surgeries on their knees seem to be able to handle therapy alot

easier...anyone else think so?? Hope everyone has a good weekend! Take

care and God bless!

I had two previous surgeries before my TKR. Two weeks after surgery with the TKR I had 90 degree flexion. The bend did take some forceful pushing by the PT but it was just a very few degrees at a time, and he let up when I said "uncle". My problem is getting the 0 degree extension, STILL. Good luck on getting your flexion after the manipulation. Please, let me know how this is done. Do they give you a general so they can break the scar tissue up? Has anyone tried a professional massage therapist who specializes in Connective Tissue work to get their range of motion up to speed? Hi Patty,

My name is and I had TKR of my right knee on August 31, 2004

and have never walked the same since. I have been through 8

surgeries since that date with 7 different doctors but now I think

that I have the best doctor and he will be replacing my right knee

again for me very soon. I have so much scar tissue in the right knee

that I have never been able to bend it or straighten it out since the

initial surgery. I'm hoping that all this will change with the

removal of the scar tissue and a new replacement of my knee as soon

as I get my calcium level and hemoglobin up. My hemoglobin is at 8.6

(I'm anemic) and my doctor, out of University of Michigan Hospital,

says that as long as my calcium level is too low, he couldn't go

ahead with the surgery because my knee won't heal right again.

I've had three manipulations since my initial surgery. I wish you

all the luck with your healing process. All I can say is exercise a

lot, that is the only way that you will get full use of it. I know

the manipulations are painful but if it doesn't heal properly, you

would be looking at unbelievable pain like what I have been going

through 24/7 for almost 3-1/2 years now.

Feel free to keep in contact with me. Take care.

Regards,

ston, MI

Alan,

Did your OS say there was a time frame upon which you could have it manipulated? I am almost 5 months out and have around 100 degree flexion and would like more...Is it too late?

Hi Patty,Don't worry a bit, it's the best thing for you and it isn't bad atall. I had manipulation done in my 3rd month and I went from about110 degrees to a permanent 140 in one day. It doesn't hurt more than

a mild sprain and lets face it, after the pain of a TKR, this will beNOTHING. You'll feel better and be well on your way to recoveryafterwards. I went straight to therapy from the hospital and itwasn't bad. Maybe you'll be told to do the same thing.

Best Regards,Alan in NJ

Sadly, this is how the NHS is. They paid way over the odds for an IT system, which after going way over budget, they ditched it & are now starting from scratch. If the results are at your GP, just request they send them to the Endo. They will do that my Fax or snail mail, as they truly are in the dark ages, but at least they will get there. We just have to accept it!Good luck!missing blood tests results when I attended a follow up Endo appt.the results are on my GP's system!

Hi, PCOS causes heavy periods as does hypo- is this one of you problems? > Subject: Here we go again!> >> > Got an appt next Friday (15th). Yet again more blood drawn for tests but what has got me thinking is on the form that the Endo sent me for the blood tests to be done on the section where it asks why these tests are needed it says PPCOS, which I have been told stands for possible polycistic ovary syndrome!!> > The blood tests I have had afe> > TSH> GLUCOSE> U & E> FSH> LH> PROLACTIN> ESTRAGIN (THINK I'VE PUT THAT RIGHT)> TESTEORONE> DHEA> > The person who took the blood said it could be also for pituary tumours as she said that could be resason for vision problems and other symptoms course I'm now in a state of panic.> > Like I said, its like an game of snakes and ladders up one ladder down three snakes. Hi, i dropped my t3 5 days before i had my blood test and still had a

suppressed TSH,My Dr then lowered my t4 ( i was taking a t3/t4 combination).I

had been honest with my Dr about self-medicating with t3.I wanted a trial on t3

after seeing an endo that refused me a trial on t3 even though i had a low t3

reading ,T3 reading was 4.00 range(4.1-7.9).To get a reading that will keep my

DR happy i have had to stop my t3.I was starting to feel a lot better being on

the T4/T3.I feel i'm left yet again with no support again With in the NHS.I have

my next blood test in 2 weeks but unsure where to go from here.I want to back on

T4/T3 and that's what my body is telling me it needs, but what happens when i'm

due for the next blood test, looks as if i have to go on this merry go round

everytime. Regards Helen

Hi Helen,

When on T4/T3 then the idea of simply 'fiddling the tests' by dropping T3 or T4

prior to the test is not so easy because of the effect the T4 is having.

Is not using less T4 with the T3 an option to keep your doctor happy? That way

you may have a chance of adjusting the numbers prior to the test?

The better alternative is to find someone else who will do a better job.

These guys shouldn't be fixated with lab test results if you are feeling better

than you were with no indications of tissue toxicity.

Best regards,
