Guest guest
TKR, L, 10/10, no, I cannot kneel on that knee unless on a really soft, thick pad or mattress (like a tempur-pedic). 2 mos. ago I fell in the living room and my husband, not quite strong enuf to lift me (I'm a big gal) had to get several pillows to put under the knee. The other ( " good " ha ha) leg was not strong enuf. So with a lot of heave ho-ing and pillows under the new knee, we got me up again. Now the " good " leg can do the work, I think, after a lot of biking, but I hope not to fall again. ////OldClimber ================================================================================ On 4/11/2011 9:20 PM, Pat Stoeckle wrote: > > > > I was wondering if anyone here who has had a TKR can kneel. Guest guest
I had bilateral TKR done in July 2009. I saw my surgeon last July, and return this July. At my annual appointmet last year, my surgeon told me no kneeling at that time, but at my next appointment (this year), we'd see. I had a slower than usual recovery and my surgeon advised me to wait to kneel if I could at all put if off. (I've kneeled only once in two years, and it was in the process of getting myself up after I fell, and it was NOT comfortable to kneel.....and it was seven months post-surgery.) I think it's an individual thing.....how long before kneeling, how much discomfort there is doing it and is there a way to adapt around not doing it. I know I can certainly make adaptations if I end up on permanent no-kneeling. > I was wondering if anyone here who has had a TKR can kneel. Can you do it? Guest guest
I appreciate your reply. I also fell once. I was not hurt but my husband was not close by and I was trying to figure out how to get up without help and without getting onto my knees. I did it, but it was scary and difficult. Guest guest
Thanks.......I guess if I can't do it I can live without it. Not having pain in my knees any more was well worth the surgery to me. Pat in Pennsylvania Re: Re: can you kneel? My knee is 12 years old, and I've never ever been able to kneel. Guest guest
Hi Pat, I can kneel. I had my TKR done 10/16/10. My doctor told me after the surgery that I would be able to kneel because he was able to same my own kneecap. He did not have to replace it with something artificial. Guest guest
Bev, As far as I know, the backs of my kneecaps were cleaned, arthritis removed and then a plastic piece was attached to them. Not positive about this but that is how I understood it. My knees work very well but I just feel uncomfortable kneeling. Some of the problem is that I am just afraid, I think. I will try to get over that. Glad you are doing so well. Pat Pennsylvania Re: can you kneel? Hi Pat, I can kneel. I had my TKR done 10/16/10. Guest guest
I had a TKR 2 years ago and at first could not kneel. It is getting better. It is a little painful but a lot better than at first. ________________________________ From: Scharff <zinsdad@...> Joint Replacement Sent: Tue, April 12, 2011 12:49:07 AM Subject: Re: can you kneel?  Hi Pat, I had a tkr in May '09 and can kneel with no problem. Guest guest
> Can you get up from a sitting-on-the-floor position? Or, any problems getting out of the bathtub?> After my first TKR Oct 5 2010, when I was doing out patient therapy after 2 weeks in home therapy I did ask if I was going to be able to get out of a tub again... they had a bathroom setup where she took me to the tub and said get in and we will see if you can do it.. I was able to get up and out of the tub by myself, when I could take a bath at home after completely healing from the insiscission, I took a bath but made sure my husband was home to help if I had a problem.. I didn't.. after my second TKR 2/25/2011 I finally took a bath at home 2 weeks ago and didn't have a problem getting out of the tub.. it is probably easier now to get up and out then before I have the knee's done.. I haven't sat on the floor yet but I guess I should try that..:-) Donna M Mi

Guest guest
I have to kneel when using my RV, trailer jacks, hooking up sewer line, lighting propane oven and so on. I also have a Christmas tree farm and have to kneel to plant new seedlings. I used a little rug to kneel on. Kneeling pain was mostly when bending my knee too much, a sharp throb pain which is over right away. My biggest problem was getting back up, needed my cane to help get back up. I bought some knee pads for planting seedlings. Doing water exercises on my recent trip south about 5 different instructors said I was running in the water, doing jumping jacks, wrong. They said to land heel first. I usually ran with my toes hitting the floor first. I had to tell myself to land heel first. Brickey
Guest guest
This sounds rather odd, but when you're trying to kneel, sorta gently roll around on your knee to see if there is a more comfortable place actually on the knee that works better for pressure. Guest guest
Yes Barb. I try to do the right thing. Although I do forget some times, but I can't physically pull myself up with my shoulders. I used to sit on the floor with my legs crossed, I don't do that any more. -- Re: can you kneel? , is your 90* rule still in effect? BARB in Florida ..
