I was also told that I would have to take a large dose of antibiotics before any

invasive surgery or dental work for the rest of my life. When I asked why, I

was told that if you get an infection in the blood stream, it will go right to

the replacement joint. (thinking it was something that did not belong in the

body) If you do get a bad infection in the joint it will most likely have to be

removed. I myself, would prefer not to have that happen so I guess I will

follow doctor's orders. Funny story about the swim noodles. We rarely get to

the low 90's in northeast Pa. I cannot imagine what 120 would feel like.

[Norton AntiSpam]Re: Antibiotics before

Dental Work

I was given a Z-Pak before dental work in Mexico. Consists of 4 pills.

Dentist said works about the same as amoxicillin. That was for dental surgery.

My present local dentist said do what your OS says, mine said antibiotics

forever.

I got my fill of water exercises during my 7 week stay near Palm Springs.

The exercise instructor would say don't do this exercises if you had TKR.

Most of the time they were the exercises my PT had me do. Mostly the twisting

exercises. So I did the exercises. I went into their Walmart to buy some

noodles for the pool. Temperature was 90 degrees out. Walmart said we don't

have them till summer. I asked her what she calls summer and she said 120

degrees.

Can you please tell me what a Z-Pac is? I had my first antibiotic prescription

written by my orthopedic surgeon. My dentist said to bring it in and from then

on he would write the prescription (exactly the same) for taking before my

dental appointments. He said he does whatever your orthopedic doctor

recommends. I thought that was good. I hardly travel at all, but think taking

some with you is a good idea which I would not have thought of. Thanks for the

hint.

Re: Antibiotics before Dental Work

I was put on antibiotics before my knee op, which seems sensible. But never

for dentistry. are you talking about when you see a dentist around the sa,e

time as having a kneeor hip iop, or similar?

Lin

Hi Lin, Everyone in the States is given antibiotics before any invasive

procedure. The fake knees, hips etc are more liable to infection.
