Guest guest
Until we started treatment a year ago, my son was riddled with symptoms that all led back to inflammation. He said his eyes felt like they were too big for his sockets, he had air-borne allergies, pre-asthma, his throat swelled sometimes making breathing difficult--seemingly out of the blue, he made funny struggling-to-breathe sounds at night, constant headaches, he had horrible stomach pain, and bad eczema on his knuckles. His immune system seemed to be crashing. When he got sick, he stayed sick for a long time, and he never felt 'good.' We went to several different types of doctors for the different symptoms, and I kept hearing the word " inflammation. " I listed all of the treatments we've done in the past year about two days ago in my introductory letter, so I won't bore you all again, but I'm wondering if your son has other symptoms of inflammation? I started to feel that he was really all about inflammation, and I concentrated first and foremost on bringing that under control, and while everything else improved, so did his eczema. jane On Sep 13, 2004, at 9:44 PM, wrote: > The Rash on the neck was caused by homeopathic remedies and it got > worse and > never better with their remedies. Guest guest
I did everything in my power to remove allergens from his diet and his environment (wrapping his mattress against dust mites, air filter in his bedroom, vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter, GF/CF diet, etc.), he started nasal immunotherapy (like allergy shots, but a daily nose spray instead, formulated specifically for him, made up of his specific allergens), and he started taking a prescription anti-inflammatory for his inflammatory bowel disease. I just got some evening primrose oil at Whole foods this morning and I am going to give that a try. With all the oils and supplements he gets one would think he would be silky soft with a rosy glow - NOT! Thanks for everyone's help and support. Guest guest
Hey Jen, My son is battling eczema right now and is being treated by a homeopath. We haven't seen much if any improvement right now but we're holding out hope. I did a Google search for eczema and vaccines and there are quite a few articles for both sides of the fence out there. I did not post as I'm in kind of a hurry, but I plan on reading up on them in a few days. Take care! Sheri B. Guest guest
My son gets eczema. He gets it in the crooks of his arms and the backs of his knees, there was one time it was so bad on his legs that it almost covered both of his lower legs. We found out that he has food allergies, I guess that is the biggest cause of eczema in children. We believe that his allergies, thus his eczema were brought on by the vaccines that he received as an infant. As soon as we changed his diet (his main allergen was wheat) and consulting a homeopath, his eczema has been kept under control. Oh, calendula ointment helped quite a bit with the eczema, it helped soften it and relieve the itching. -- Sara Proud Mama to Colin 12/07/99 Jack 8/07/

Guest guest
Thanks you Ingrid. I have forwarded this email to my friend. I know she will find this interesting. I also believe it will encourage her in the way she is going now (discontinuing dairy and continuing breastfeeding). thanks, jen -- Eczema My son had eczema too, it started at 3 months of age, after he got the second DTP Polio booster. Until then his skin was perfect and I was breastfeeding exclusively. The best thing I did for him, following the advice of a fellow La Leche League Leader, was to keep breastfeeding for as long as possible, which I did, until he was 6 years old.. He is now free of it, except if he eats dairy or eggs. I was quite angry when it all started, as I always thought bf would stop this happening but in spite of me bf him excl. until 8 months and myself being off all dairy, eggs and fish, he showed little improvement until he was 2. But I think had I not done the dairy free etc. diet and formula fed him, he would have ended up in hospital. I was furious with the docs for not telling me that this can happen with vaccines, in spite of bf. I wrote a letter to ask for his reaction (the eczema) to be mentioned in the adverse effect yeloow card system, but the pediatrician denied it. You have to do everything yourself, the docs are useless at helping with this, except prescribing steroid cream. One dermatologist even suggeste I stop bf and give my son some dairy, as he needs this for the calcium... well, he never had any in his life, except the very rare ice cream and is the tallest in his class. Just goes to show, never mistrust your instinct. Love, Ingrid

Guest guest
My mother has suffered from eczema for years~it is often an allergic reaction to many things. My mother is a gardener (master judge and does flower arranging demonstations, etc.) and gets exposed constantly to stuff she is allergic to (along with human hair, chlorine in water, dust & molds, etc.). My mother also drinks milk three times a day, growing up brainwashed that " it's food for you " by the diary industry and milk products are often a common trigger for eczema. So, she continues to have blistered hands so bad she has to have cortisone shots, which enable her to bruise more easily. She also uses Eucerin on her hands, which is full of mineral oil and petroleum products and does not let her hands breath. I have found my mother can use any Nu Skin product and they really help her (except she is set in her ways and old products and forgets to use the newer, healthier stuff). What I have found in my search for healthier skin products is by the company Nu Skin USA called Calming Touch (yes, I am a distributor so I can buy the products at cost because I love them, believe in them, and always am told I have healthy skin and look younger than my 53 years of age since using their face products, makup, etc.). Go to my website at http://clearly.mynuskinusa.com and look up Calming Touch under Epoch, then face & body. We have a wonderful story of a foster child of my cousin who has psoriasis. She came to the cabin in 80 degree weather wearing long sleeves and long pants~because she was embarrassed of her broken skin~which of course aggravated the psoriasis in the heat. I put the Calming Touch on her skin and we immediately saw the redness and bumps go away, and the itch went away also. We/She couldn't believe the immediate results and relief. Calming Touch is part of the Epoch line that uses special products available in the rain forest areas, etc. that are healthy and helpful. Here is what it says about the product: " Epoch® Calming TouchT Soothing Skin Cream Help bring long sought after relief to those experiencing red, rashy, itchy , or scaly, dry skin with Calming TouchT Soothing Skin Cream. Also formulated with yarrow, used by ancient Greek warriors and Native Americans to comfort and heal wounds, this rich cream gently soothes troubled skin for a healthier, more comfortable appearance. Guest guest
> GLA, evening primrose or borage oil really helped my eczema GLA is a strong inflammation increaser unless EPA is present to block its conversion to AA. A better answer is to take wild salmon oil, cold liver oil or fish oil for the EPA and DHA, and also the GLA or Borage oil to further reduce inflammation. Cold liver etc. oil has been used on its own to reduce symptoms of esential fatty acid imbalance like eczema. This is explained fully with references by fatty acids expert Dr. Floyd Chilton, in his betselling book Inflammation Nation. Duncan

No I STRONGLY disagree with anything related to soy as it skews the immune system to the TH-2 side which is where it is already skewed in presence of eczema. Eczema is an allergic response and only TH-2 skewed immune systems can generate it. Soy makes that worse, not better. A supplement like Moducare will help rebalance more towards TH-1 immune health which provides the cytokines to resist allergies and chronic conditions including eczema. EV Olive oil at EVERY meal (can't get too much here), fish oil and blackcurrant oil supplements - plus walnuts, almonds, macadamias etc are good fat sources - cut out all the saturated fat, trans fats and cut out vegetable oils other than EV olive and blackcurrant. The Extra virgin olive opens the cell walls to let in the other oils especially the omega-3s- it's essential to be there in quantity - and it has the most powerful antioxidants in it too. Cut out all cell-damaging foods - sweeteners, sugar, starch. Eat a very high antioxidant diet: turmeric, parsley, oregano, coriander, high colour vegetables, limit fruits due to sugars being inflammatory, but if you use them, choose high pigment ones like blueberries, plums, prunes, pomegranate (and strawberry if type A but NOT if type O!) Get the eat right 4 your type *encyclopedia* by Dr D'Adamo - to adjust diet to exclude anything inflammatory to a specific blood type. Then: For a good anti-inflammatory diet written by a dermatologist who knows his stuff, get Dr PErricone's latest book: Choose what's in there that is blood type compatible. Book: " The Perricone Weight Loss diet. " You need not use it to lose weight - just eat more - but this is an anti-inflammatory diet first and foremost. Another good one is his previous book, The Perricone Prescription - which has a 28 day diet for better skin. All his advice is based on solid health building research - no cortisone suppression stuff! > Exercise > is good, especially vigorous exercise. Depends where the eczema is. Perspiration usually aggravates it badly so you want an exercise that is moderate. Namaste, Irene -- Irene de Villiers, B.Sc, AASCA, MCSSA, D.I.Hom/D.Vet.Hom. P.O. In 55 yrs, classical homeopathy did the most for it. GLA, evening primrose oil, borage oil did nothing. Exercise is good in that it raises cortisol, if you have low cortisol and many people with eczema do. Avoiding the most allergic/sensitive foods. Oranges are a big culprit for me. Avoid topical approaches, as they are suppressive to the vital force, and eczems is really a systemic problem. This sounds interesting. I am type O, but I don't have the eczema problem, well except for once in my life when I was really stressed. (I guess more than ususal) It is my kids that have the eczema. My little girl has basically grown out of it (I hope), but the little boy has it all over. He is very young still and I hope he grows out of it also. Of course all three of us have ALLERGIES! No correlation there! I do use the EV Olive Oil. I am allergic to the soy, but I've been pushing it with the kids as a healthy alternative or so I thought. You know I think I have become allergic to strawberries also. I notice kiwi causing the same response as the strawberries. I have heard something before about eatting for your blood type. I'll have to look that book up. Thanks again!
