Guest guest
I had my bank pull the cash from my credit card and put it in a cashiers check. You may have a cash withdraw fee from your credit card so check with your credit terms first but it brought me piece of mind to have the check ready in my hand. Guest guest
Sorry, mine wasn't recently but I did use a CC with paypal for part of my payment, I financed part of it through Dr. A's website also. The address was still a hotmail account and it was fine. Paypal is VERY secure and I would trust anything that goes through that site. JMHO. That is great you are able to get a good interest rate and go that route!! Guest guest
I got banded last Monday. I also went to Dr. Aceves' as a companion for my sister when she was banded in February. Stop worrying! It is a much better experience than anything you would get here in the U.S. The medications from Mexico come across the border without any problems. I wish I had brought more pain meds home, since I am having trouble getting anything else down. I have severe lumbar back problems, and need more. No need for a prescription -- Dr. Aceves and gang will give you what you need there as part of the price of the surgery. The wifi at the hotel and hospital are free. Guest guest
Gay: I was sleeved Aug 12/08, and had a wonderful experience. As for pain meds coming into the U.S; I didn't have any problem...and I was heading on to Canada. You will be given two boxes of Supradol-for pain, I didn't finish mine. Some people buy more at the Pharmacy in Mexico to have on hand. Its also wise to buy your Nexium in Mexico (which Dr. Aceves wants you to take for three months post-op) as it is way cheaper!! I just got a script in Canada and two months cost me $157, where in Mexico it would have been about $120. When they ask if you want the spinal block....yes!!!! It really helps with the pain. They do this in the O.R, so I didn't feel a thing, and actually didn't even remember them doing it until much later. The only other advice, remember you are in Mexico, trying to speak a little Spanish will go along way!! Congratulations!!! You are in good hands with the "A" team! Guest guest
Hi...In my operation last year, it was done as an outpatient procedure and then my wife drove me home. They gave me some oxicodone pills which I took for pain only for one day...then I switched to plain tylenol which was sufficient to make me comfortable. I could have gone back to work in two days, but since I am retired I didn't have to. The recovery, in essence, was no big deal. -----Original Message-----From: cholesteatoma [mailto:cholesteatoma ]On Behalf Of bugaboo2260Sent: Thursday, October 09, 2008 8:35 PMcholesteatoma Subject: surgery i want to know what to expect after my hubbys surgery? .. i know that everyone reacts differently but i would like to know something any ideas
Guest guest
I was so glad to hear that Barry had such an "easy" recovery. My husband wasn't so lucky. Honestly, I think it all depends on how one reacts more to the anesthesia than anything. Hubby had some breathing problems right after and didn't "come out of the drugs" very well. He spent twice as long in recovery than the actual surgury took. He was on pain meds pretty frequently for the first 3-4 days, then was able to taper off. He has a phone job and is a DJ part time (both big on needing the ears) so he was out a full week (then got the flu, so turned into two weeks). First 24-48 hours our doc suggested he didn't do much of anything. Told us to take advantage and lay around watching tv or something. He had his 1st on a Friday and by Sunday night and especially Monday was feeling much more like himself, save for the pain. Good Luck! Guest guest
>Don't expect to be back at work in 2 days. Your husband will have bandages and packing in his ear. I was sent home from the hospital with my whole head wrapped in bandages. You should be able to remove the outer ones after a day or 2, but will still have packing in your ear canal with gauze over that. That will need to be changed frequently, as the ear is constantly draining/bleeding right after surgery. I don't find the pain too bad, except when the packing was removed. If your husband doesn't have the dissolving packing, make sure he takes some painkillers right before the Dr. removes the packing. I forgot to do that last time and I regret it now. If your husband does need to take painkillers following the surgery, he will probably be feeling kind of dopey, so he may not want to to to work or drive right away. All in all, don't expect to be going back to work in 2 days. The first week I was tired alot and woozy from the meds. I had alot of hissing in the year and could hear my heart beat. Drainage continued for 2.5 weeks. Approaching the end of week 3 my ear is practically deaf even though I had no bone removal. According to the doctor the hearing will come back by week 6. Hearing in group situations is difficult because all the sounds seem to jumble together. Sometimes I have to apologize for my " anti-socialness " and leave the room. On 3 occasions I've had what I call " the fog " . It seemed like my head was in a fish bowl and felt a little woozy. After 10 days you can resume normal activities, but leave room for small naps. Guest guest
I had a 2 level fusion with the rods and pedicle screws on levels L4/L5 and L5/S1. No it is NOT an easy surgery! I have had several surgeries in my life and this was by FAR the most brutal of the bunch. I needed help for at least 2 weeks after the surgery. I would not have been able to take care of myself for that length of time due to restraints and pain levels. If you want to know more or particulars feel free to email me privately. Guest guest
Tom, I had a L-3/S-1 screws and rods fusion. I stayed in the hospital for a total of 6 days. There was some pain but they usually got the meds to me quickly then it was uncomfortable with pain during sudden movements. I had physical therapy in the hospital (as in they make you get up and walk with the walker) and because I have stairs in my home, I had physical therapy on the stairs as well. Basically to teach me how to walk up and down and to teach my husband how to assist me. I do have ongoing nerve pain but because of the type of damage to my spine and spinal cord before the surgery my doctors advised me that it was a possibility even after the surgery. All in all I feel better since the surgery and I can function again. Hoping for lots of success and a quick recovery for you but remember to listen to your body and take the time it needs to heal. Guest guest
Tom, A case manager is there to make sure that the doctor doesn't make any recommendations or order any tests that w/c doesn't feel is necessary. Most case workers will dominate your appt. completely. You have no obligation to allow this person to be present during your appt. In fact, you can tell them to make their own appt. with the doctor at another time. Just remember, they are a case worker appointed by the w/c carrier and therefore work for them not you. Guest guest
Hey Tom! Congrats on getting the fusion surgery done. It is horrible that you sprained your ankle though...I am so sorry for that!!! Do you normally sleep walk @ home, or is this something that is not familiar to you? What meds were they giving you while you were an I.P.? The reason that I ask is that I received the med Ketamine for pain relief and spasms. This was the last thing they could try...they surely tried everything else. Thankfully it helped the spasms and pain, but the nightmares and hallucinations were horrible...they lasted for days. I did not sleep walk though, thankfully. I hope that this horrible ordeal is behind you now and your pain level stays at a 4-5 and goes even LOWER for you. As far as the case manager, I was never injured on the job, so I don't know much about workmans' comp....but I am certain that other members of our group have been on workmans' comp and will be more than happy to help you out. We sure do have a great bunch of folks here. Take care, tom! Gentle hugs to you and all, Kathy G. Co-Owner **************A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. See yours in just 2 easy steps! Guest guest
Hi, I've been reading and learning so much from everyone in this group. I really appreciate how open and receptive it is. I am new to this group. I have been having problems since last July with my first spasm (heart attack) that did not recur for many months. Then my doctor put me on hearburn meds that seemed to work. By Nov. things got worse. I had cut my food to 1/2 portions and I was feeling pains after eating. After Thanksgiving I went back to the doctor and was referred to a GI after a Barium Floroscopy. Showed the classic " birds beak " and the radiologist suggested I have Achalasia. The GI doctor also thought that was the problem and did the endoscopy to rule out other problems. He finally sent me to a surgeon and am waiting for my manometry results. All the doctors have suggested that I have the myotomy, since I am a young 45 and in good health. But I read from everyone else that they have undergone so many other procedures before they did this. I am subsiding on Coke and clear soup. Have lost a lot of weight and coming to the end of my sanity! I guess, my question is whether I should try other things and then the surgery or just go ahead and take the last step first? My spasms are mild compared to others on this site. Unless there is food in my esophagus. That is why I drink only liquids!. I know everyone is different but there is such good advice from everyone. Would appreciate any input. Thanks Maniko
Guest guest
Maniko wrote: > ... my question is whether I should try other things and then the > surgery or just go ahead and take the last step first? ... > That depends. Statistically myotomy seems to offer the best bet at providing " success. " Success as measured in studies can vary from study to study and may not be as much as you would wish for, yet be enough to be satisfied with. Dilatation and Botox may cause problems for a future myotomy, though it may not be enough of a problem to care about. Botox and Dilatation let you get back to work quickly but a myotomy can mean two or more weeks off of work, depending on what you do. Botox may only last a short while if it even works at all, and then needs to be repeated over and over until it stops working. Dilatation may need a number of sessions before achieving success, working from smaller to larger diameters. One myotomy usually last years, but could fail right away, and sometimes needs to be fallowed by a dilatation or another myotomy. Most of us will not need an esophagectomy but no matter what you do, you could end up needing one off in the future. There are no guarantees or right answers, just good guesses. notan
