Guest guest
HI I am nearly 15 weeks post op now after THR. Sounds like you are doing fine. Don't push it, find your pace. I am in N. Europe and the Health Care system is probably different from where you are, but I have hubby and two grown up kids coming and going to help me out, like with tying my shoes. And walking the dog, something I don't dare to do, I'm just too unstable on my feet, still. I use walking staves when I'm walking outside, because they are so light. Great that you are able to cut back on the pain meds, good sign! Good luck with the staple removing, and happy healing! Debbie > > I'm 1.5 weeks post THR and so far so good. I'm walking in house without assistance or with one crutch and am cutting back on my pain meds with success. > > So far so good. My biggest challenge has been getting my Home Health Care working right. Guest guest
Debbie, what are walking staves? A European term for canes? Guest guest
Hi Barb; They are officially known as Nordic Walking Staves. They look like ski poles, but longer, and are used for ... walking. Of course, one won't be doing much real Nordic Walking just after a THR, but they are lighter than crutches, great for stability, and even have been known to help build tired muscles in arms and shouldars after shorter or longer periods of inactivity. They come in different lengths, and are available at sports outlets. I have heard that they are available in the US too. They are not canes. I started using them as soon as I could get out and walk, rather than crutches, because of the stability factor, and I needed a little help with my balance, but not while I still needed crutch support.
