Coconut oil is nature's ultimate brain food. The body as well as the brain

uses glucose as its primary source of fuel. During times of low food

consumption or fasting, when blood glucose levels decline, the body releases

fatty acids from fat storage to supply the body's need for fuel. However,

fatty acids cannot pass the blood brain barrier. The brain needs another

source of fuel when glucose levels drop. That source is ketones. Ketones are

made in the liver from stored fat. They are made specifically to feed the

brain. Low blood glucose levels trigger the release of ketones. This way the

brain always has an ample amount of either glucose or ketones in which to

keep it healthy and functioning properly.

MCTs have many unique properties. One of these is that they are ketogenic.

They are converted into ketones regardless of blood sugar levels. When you

eat coconut oil, many of the MCTs in the oil are converted into ketones

providing the brain with abundant source of energy.

This is very important because in epilepsy, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and

even MS, the brain has difficulty properly metabolizing glucose. This lack

of energy is one of the primary causes of the symptoms associated with these

diseases. In the case of Alzheimer's the lack of energy causes brain cells

to starve to death and the brain to shrink, resulting in the loss of memory

and cognitive skills. Ketones bypass the defect in glucose metabolism and

provide the brain with the energy it needs. Ketones also activate special

proteins in the brain that stimulate healing, repair, and growth of new

brain cells. In addition, ketones supply the basic building blocks for new

brain cells. So ketones provide both the building materials and the energy

to repair and build brain cells. This is why I call coconut oil nature's

ultimate brain food.

One of the reasons why MCTs are found in mother's milk is to feed the

growing baby's brain. Without adequate MCTs the baby's brain would not

develop properly and the child would grow up to become mentally challenged.

If you want to learn more about coconut oil and brain health I recommend you

read my new book " Stop Alzheimer's Now. " The book not only discusses

Alzheimer's, but epilepsy, Parkinson's, MS, and other neurological disorders

as well as diabetes, since Alzheimer's is now referred to as type 3

diabetes.

Coconut Oil

Subject: Re: Inquiry

Hi and Jan,

I don't recall these issues being discussed in the years I have been on this

forum but perhaps we can get Dr. Bruce Fife to enter the discussion, being

that he's a member and an expert on coconut oil. On the home page of his

website I notice he lists " Reduces epileptic seizures " as one of the MANY

beneficial uses of coconut oil:

http://www.coconutresearchcenter.org/

Also, when you click on RESEARCH, he has a link to Epilepsy, Altzheimers,

and other Neurological disorders:

http://www.coconutresearchcenter.org/coconut-research.htm

Perhaps he can elaborate on these for us.

Calling Bruce Fife!

Best,

Dee

is 49 and she has MS, fibromyalga and encephilitis. Her main problem is the

seizures she has with the encephlitis I know my spelling on these is horrid.

Does anyone have any info on how coconut oil can help?
