Guest guest
Lonn, I work around a lot of people who have pierced every part of their body imaginable. I've always wondered...When a girl with a pierced navel gets pregnant should she remove the piercing? When I was full term with each of my little darlings my navel was protruding and stretched. I can only imagine that my navel would have exploded had I left an opening in it like a piercing. Sorry if this is too graphic for some. ~Laury
Guest guest
Yes, the jewelry should come out. If the jewelry is left in the navel too long, it can cause a stretchmark where otherwise there might not have been one. Once the piercing has healed and stabilized the jewelry can be left out during the last trimester and tapered back in after delivery. We do it all the time. Guest guest
I had mine done a year and a half ago and wasn't told this. Of course, I wasn't working out then so I can't help there. I was just told that I couldn't swim in a lake for 6 months. -- body piercing This isn't really off-topic. I want to get my belly button pierced but the piercer says no strenuous workouts for about 4 weeks. Has anyone on board had this done and what was your experience with working out and healing? There is just no way I can take 4 weeks off! I've been ON since last June. That's the longest stretch I've gone with cardio and weight training. I did years of l Arts but that's a whole different ball game. I'm scared that if I take that much time off I want get back on. Debra

Has anyone on board had this > done and what was your experience with working out and healing? The reasoning behind this is the sweat factor causing infection at the pierced site - friction, heat, moistness etc - bad news for skin to heal. Ditto the lake swimming - too easy to catch some infection in an open wound. Whats the rush? Why not wait? It'll look even better once you are done with the current challenge and probably in time for some beach weather by then :-) joni ---------------------------------------------- *Lift well, Eat less, Walk fast, Live long*
Guest guest
Debra, I got my naval pierced 5 yrs ago at age 25 and worked out the next day. I've never heard of having to take time off... i also coached college soccer and a lot of the girls had theirs done and I know they didn't take time off! I'm not sure who is advising this but I'm sure you could workout right away, the pain was temporary and it felt fine even later that same day... just wear loose or low fitting pants! Good luck. heather --------------------------------- Photos – Showcase holiday pictures in hardcover Photo Books. You design it and we’ll bind it! Guest guest
I agree, the key is keeping it clean. Meticulous cleansing to the area is a must. What¹s that stuff in the green bottle? Surgi-clean or something like that. I used that on my piercings, never had a problem. Guest guest
I had to chime in here. When I had mine done I worked at a dry cleaner so I got sweaty just working. I was told to take extra zinc (also by a tattooist) that it helps the body heal. I kept a baggie of q-tips and a travel size bottle of saline, like to clean contacts, and cleaned it several times a day and following with neosporin. The saline is just salt water and it healed rather quickly. Just another idea. Leilani > > > I had mine done a year and a half ago and wasn't told this. Guest guest
I had both my knees replaced two years ago and know I have to take antibiotics before dental appointments. I am considering another set of holes in my ears, and I would take antibiotics beforehand just like with the dentist, but I am wondering if I would be wiser to just not get pierced. How much do i need to worry about infection in my new knees?
Guest guest
Personally, if it was me, I wouldn't take an antibiotic for an ear piercing. as the environment is sterile, unlike your mouth which is full of bacteria, and same with a colonoscopy. Of course it it showed signs of infection that's a different matter. Also if you were 3 months out then may be yes, but I think 2 years is good. Others may disagree with me. I had a tattoo done after 5 joints and I didn't take antibiotics for that but I do for the dentist.
