I agree 100% with that. I found my family and also a good friend of mine were

actually insistent that I let them help me. Having had two knees done at the

same time, I quickly learned that after years of being the giver it was actually

nice to be on the receiving end for a change. That was just my situation. I

realize it is not the same for everyone though.

being dependent on someone

I don't have any family other than a brother on the other side of the

country, bu tI do have friends. But sheesh, I'd hate to think someone feels

that she can't exepct a spouse or grown children to lift a finger to help

her...my take would be if that is truly the case, she failed as a parent in

raising such selfish kids.

Wow...I can hardly believe that woman thought that way! Glad everything

worked out for you so well. My family members were the first to offer me

help. That is what family is supposed to do. Apparently that woman didn't

have a clue. (of course if you no longer have family or are estranged from

them it would be a different story I guess)

I did require help at first. Just getting up into a standing position from the

bed to the walker required someone always to be there for the first few days at

home....even if I need a trip to the bathroom in the middle of the night I

didn't dare try to get up and get there by myself. I was also supposed to walk

around the house a little bit every hour. After the first week at home though I

was able to get up and move about alone. I was not used to having people help

me but I quickly saw it was a necessity in my case....at least for the first few

days. After the first week though, things got easier and it was mostly just my

husband and I at home.
