I don't have any family other than a brother on the other side of the

country, bu tI do have friends. But sheesh, I'd hate to think someone feels

that she can't exepct a spouse or grown children to lift a finger to help

her...my take would be if that is truly the case, she failed as a parent in

raising such selfish kids.

Wow...I can hardly believe that woman thought that way! Glad everything

worked out for you so well. My family members were the first to offer me

help. That is what family is supposed to do. Apparently that woman didn't

have a clue. (of course if you no longer have family or are estranged from

them it would be a different story I guess)

I have 3 grown, unmarried sons. One came to see me in the hospital ONCE and the

other came to see me at home ONCE.  The other one didn't even call.  Yes, they

were raised better than that.  Thankfully, my husband took 10 days off from work

and did the necessary things.

Please don't jump to the " failed as a parent " conclusion. It's a different

world now - " me me me me me. "

Hey, it's the one advantage of having no kids of my own! I can act as if

" mine " would have been perfect..:).

But the woman whose take was " Oh dear no, I can't ask my spouse or children

to lift a finger to help me " ...that's pretty much admitting she thinks

" family " responsibility only flows one way.

As i said, antisocial but to those in the grip of it it is mistakenly thought

to be the epitomy of what being social.is all about. They enjoy the fact that

the blinders gives them the social licence to simply ignore everything else

going on in this world and that while doings so all the world will take safe

care of them and of itself.
