Hi Lin, Sorry, no shin pain. The knee is still tight after about 130 degrees,

but no shin pain.

Keep the good weather for us!

Subject: TKR 8 months ago - more shin pain!

Hi All

for the past few weeks I have been having really nasty shin pains, mostly

when sitting. The whole of the front of my leg below the knee feels tight,

and this often extends around to the back of the leg too. I did have a

period of not being able to find the time to go for my regular walks, (it

was far too hot for a while, plus demands on my time ate up the days) and I

wondered if it might be that, but for the last couple of weeks I've been

back to doing my walks - not every day, but every 2 - 3 days, plus line

dancing once a week. It's still not better. It means that driving is painful

again. Walking, it's fine, it's just when the leg is bent when sitting.

I've made an appointment to see my GP on Tuesday, but I was wondering if

anyone has any ideas what it might be?

Thanks

Lin

Oh Joan, 130 degrees...that's a dream of mine!  I'm struggling 5 wks post op to

get to 100.  My muscles keep tightening up no matter what...the PT thinks my

muscle disease, even tho dormant, has damaged the muscles enough to cause a

slower, painful recovery.  But maybe I'm not alone...I wonder if I waited a

little too long for TKR...the OS told me that on a 1 to 10 scale, my knee was an

8.5, soon to hit 9, on the diseased joint scale.  I've lost 20 lbs...have more

to go, but it's going!  Yippee!  I think that will help.  The swelling is going

down, but there's one spot that's still swollen and hard as a rock as well as

totally numb.  Doc says that's how it's supposed to be after surgery! LOL!

I have shin pain, too, Lin, don't know what to do about it.  Sitting with my

feet on the floor is not a great experience, but you're much further out than

me.  Keep us posted with guidance you get from your GP!  Good luck!

Well, guess I'm going to take a pain pill and have the DIL work with me...I've

been a slacker this weekend.

Stretch out your shins! Your Pt should have some exercises for that. it hurts

but really helps.

Hi Lynn, At 5 weeks that is about where I was! I was still on pain med, and

had just started going out to PT. This is a long process. It takes time! Be

careful that when you go off the pain meds you don't put the weight back on. I

have been fighting the same 5 pounds for 1 year!!!

And yes, there is a dead spot, and it stays dead. Learn to ignore it. :)

So keep at it girl! It does get better.

All the best, Joan
