Yes Lin, but its too late when you have an infection, I also don't agree

with over prescribed antibiotics but being careful is another thing.

If you do get an infection in a joint its the beginning of a very long long

road to getting another put back.

I don't have to go to the doctor for the antibiotics the dentist gives me

one when I leave his rooms ready for the next time.

The Ortho guy says what he prefers, the dentist follows through, we are all

given antibiotics in Australia also.

I only go every 9 months so its no big deal. I am healthy otherwise and

rarely ever have to have an antibiotic because I am sick.

I even had IV gentamycin when I had the catheter removed last November..

You should look into it.

I have never, ever, been prescribed any drugs before any fillings or teeth

cleaning at a dentist. The only drug I've ever been given before a procedure

was something to knock me out so they they could remove one of my wisdom

teeth. I was given some pain relief following that though. But antibiotics?

Never. And I've never had a problem. You don't get given antibiotics in the

UK unless they are absolutely necessary, as they will become less effective

if used too often. I am really surprised to hear that they are given before

dental procedures as a 'just in case'!

It has been almost six months since my TKR and I had my first teeth

cleaning. I was concerned about taking the 2000 milligrams of amoxicillin

before the procedure. I was fine until I was doing some shopping on the way

home and I started to feel the nausea set in. I have always had a sensitive

stomach.

What other drugs have some of you used before dental and other procedures?

Hi , Thanks for backing me up. I was wondering if you took them in OZ. I

guess so. Joan
