At this year’s annual meeting of The Ohio chapter of the American Association on Mental Retardation (AAMR), we will be holding a poster session featuring the work of students and young professionals in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities. If you have research, service delivery, professional, or grant-related findings or outcomes you would like to convey to others who share your interests, we invite you to submit an abstract to be part of this exciting event. The mission of AAMR is promote progressive policies, sound research, effective practices, and universal human rights for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. People who attend the annual Ohio AAMR meeting are involved in a great variety of occupations, including service delivery, policy, research, teaching, service coordination, social work, physical therapy, occupational therapy, nursing, psychology, speech & hearing, law, nutrition & dietetics, counseling, education, administration and leadership. It is a forum for individuals from many types of settings to share ideas and promote understanding. The meeting provides an opportunity for young professionals and students to meet others who are starting out, and to learn from those who have helped shape the field for many years. The theme of this year’s Ohio AAMR meeting is “New Ways of Doing Old Businessâ€, and will be held on September 6 and 7, 2005 at The Embassy Suites in Dublin, Ohio. The poster session will be held on Tuesday evening, September 6 from 7 to 8:30 pm. Some of the 2005 meeting highlights: · Keynote presentations by: Gaffney – a self-advocate working for full inclusion of individuals with Down Syndrome; & President of The Gaffney Foundation (www.karengaffneyfoundation.com) Jan Lampman – Executive Director of The Arc of Midland in Michigan and a nation-wide trainer and speaker on self-determination, Jan will share with us about creating opportunities for self-determination in changing times · Other planned topics: Direct care staff credentialing, community funding, organ transplantation for individuals with disabilities, arts programs, socialization & recreation programs, senior services, Alzheimer’s Disorder, Marriage/intimate relationships, grief issues, discharge plans · CEUs will be offered for several sessions (full list pending) Please prepare and submit an abstract of your project (in 300 words or less) detailing the purpose, methods, and results (if applicable) and submit by August 31, 2005 to: Please include your return address and affiliation along with your abstract.
