Guest guest
I'm still here! I've been kind of AWOL recently. We have been doing a lot of traveling. I am doing so much better since changing one of my blood pressure meds. Found out that one of the ones I'm taking can have the side effect of making me retain water and raise the blood pressure instead of lowering it. Since changing the med -- I am feeling so much better, weight is coming off at a steady rate. I was getting so discouraged -- doing all of the right things and still gaining weight. Got the attitude of "why bother". Now that I'm feeling better the attitude is better too! Have also been going back to the YMCA on a regular basis -- three times a week. I had forgotten how good it feels to exercise. I've been going for three weeks now and I am really noticing a difference in how I feel. Guest guest
>Found out that one of the ones I'm taking can have the side effect of making me retain water and raise the blood pressure instead of lowering it. Don't ya just hate when that happens! That's why I hate taking any meds - too many side effects, some including causing the very thing you're trying to treat. One of our favorite past times as a fmaily is to listen closely to the list of warnings and side effects of drugs on tv commercials. It's a hoot! >Since changing the med -- I am feeling so much better, weight is coming off at a steady rate. Congrats! Ya know, I started to *gain* weight when taken off my water pill back in January and it's just not coming off. Maybe I should go back on it (even though the doc told me not to) for a while and see if it makes any difference. Of course, January is also when the flu his this family and got passed around until allergy season started in early April, so there's hardly been any exercise, either. > I was getting so discouraged -- doing all of the right things and still gaining weight. Got the attitude of " why bother " . Heck, that's how I've been for decades! Even when I *did* exercise almost an hour each day and keep my calories down between 1000 - 1200 as the doctor prescribed I would still not lose or even gain. Even now, if I eat more than 1400 cal when I do get steady exercise in, or 1000 - 1200 when I don't, I'll occasionally gain, otherwise I maintain. >Have also been going back to the YMCA on a regular basis -- three times a week. I had forgotten how good it feels to exercise. I've been going for three weeks now and I am really noticing a difference in how I feel. And if everyone is back from their latest round of missionary work, that could improve your mood greatly, too. Whatever it is, it's working! Guest guest
Things just keep on going downhill for me lately! First the report form the eye doc about glaucoma, my ISP guy leaving (He did all my tech work, too, and says he's not going to do that stuff any more, either), and now yesterday's mail brought with it a questionnaire for jury duty - for Federal court! Last year's county court was bad enough, but *Federal*?? And there's no way out of it, either. Next weekend we'll take a ride over on a Sunday to find out exactly where it is and how big the parking lot is. If it's as small as I suspect, then I'll have to take the same trains my guys do every day to get there, and then walk a half mile from Penn Station to the courthouse through not so nice neighborhoods in the early morning hours. No bus takes that winding route and I can't afford to take a cab every day I would have to serve. At least it's another incentive to get off my lazy butt and start exercising to improve my fitness level! Once they get the questionnaire back, if called to serve it can be any time from then to two years from now. > What a bummer. Hope you found something/someone to go with. Oh, I still have the Prodigy service (Now part of ATT) as an ISP, something else I've been on since 1992. Ed always wanted a back-up, and was always cheap enough. Lately I've been dialing in with that instead of the local ISP because it would connect at better speeds. I found out why last week - the local guy had the T3 lines removed a few months back and all his dial-up people were now on slower lines, and if more than 1 was on at a time it slowed down even more. I guess when you only have 10 customers left and most used it only as a backup to their broadband you can't blame the guy. > Yes, mom (LOL!!) I really don't plan to go all out, just enjoy a burger and > a few of the sides that I wouldn't otherwise fix myself. :-) Gee, the same meal we're having here! I might even break down and have a turkey burger instead of a Gardenburger, too. LOL Have a great day! Ed just got up so it's time to finish getting dressed and head out grocery shopping. At that point, it will be more like "put them back where they belong" surgery than "reduction" LOL - Hope you got back to joining the gym. See what's free at AOL.com. Guest guest
Hi , Do you have an antivirus such as Norton's? If not, it would pay you to invest in one. You could have a virus causing those computer problems. Try to get hold of the 2007 version & run it through. It will tell you what's going on & usually sort out the problem for you. This will save on going in for repairs, because that's all they'll be doing anyway. Good luck mate. Guest guest
you are looking so great!!!! And wow your face looks so much younger and brighter!! :-) way to go! and congrats on hitting a " sweet spot " with your band. isnt it amazing that food really does take a back seat in your life once you start loosing the weight and you get onto others things in life?! I sort of get annoyed at my husband now when he obsesses over food. Because to me it feels like it is a waste of time now to obsess over food. But then I stop and think to myself " what a minute I used to be obsessed over food too! so I need not judge someone for being like that, cuz that used to be the way I was too! " And I have no doubt that you will make your goal by your b-day, who knows you may even pass it up!!! :-) keep it up and keep enjoying the new you!!! :-) you look so great! :-) take care, dob 10/6/06 (342) 322/249/160 > > Hey all I hope everyone is doing great. Guest guest
i have been like that ever since i had the mgb. i can't eat anything but my protein drink in the morning then i I can only follow with more protein or carbs. No juice of any kind till mid-morning. Then through out the day I can have what ever I want. Never anything sweet on an empty stomach. I will also get lightheaded and dizzy, if I don't follow this schedule. I'm 2 1/2 years out. I know what's good for me. Guest guest
Hi Littermate, Seems like it has been awhile since the picnic. I have been reading up on your emails here and find I can at times ahve some of the same symptoms. Lately fatigue, I come home and sleep in the afternoons especially towards the end of the week Thursday and Fridays. I have been taking my vitamens and am trying a slow release iron supplement now. I am cocnerend it will upset my stomach though as I could never take iron pre-op due to sensitivity. I did find a liquad iron at whole foods I liked but it is hard to know if this is the issue. I have had moments of swooning too in the morning like you mention where I have caught myself and not fallen over but have felt I had to stop and wait it out, then it passes. In my concern over the iron defficiency I talked to the pharmacist today about it a bit but he was minimal in helping me. I am getting pretty thin now. I have lost 105 lbs and weight 125. I am wearing size 4 petites. I don't want to lsoe anymore. I notice people are starting to stare at my arms if I wear a sleeveless tank or make comments like oh you don't have to worry your so thin....well if only they knew what we've been through to get here. I smile to myself and enjoy the fact that I am on the other end of the spectrum and it feels wonderful and if I am skin and bones I am just happy to be thin now. Anyway, I am interested in anything you turn up on this. I am getting ready to schedule my blood work and see my PCP again for a checkup and I want to be prepared with things to talk with him about. I am eating alot more now than before and more variety. I crave weird things depending on when. I do want carbs at times, mostly chips not bread so much or crackers. I love the fruits and veggies of course, meats and proteins are the hardest to get in me. I do ok with rice and pastas. Have improved on the lactose issue. The tablets really help if I have a moment where I feel the need for an ice cream sandwhich. Never liked sweets much before but now I want chocolate at times. Since I can't eat much at a meal I sometimes find myself wanting to eat and eat but I eat a bit and stop and wait then I want to eat again. I seem to surround myself with snacks. Cheese sticks, apples, peanuts always around. I try hard to stay healthy. I've added devrom to my repertrore of pills I take as well as the fiber caplets twice at night adn twice in the am this helps alot. I am doing well with this thanks to your dontation to me that day but if I don't do it I'll immediatley get diarrea and it can last 3-4 days. Hard when your on the road in a sales job. Anyway, I feel best at night, afternoons sleepy and tired, no energy either. I am better after I eat and am often sleepy after I eat too periodically. So it sounds like we have similar issues. Lots of muscular atrophy here as well. I am trying to get to the gym but am so tired.....work home dogs is about all I can handle, not excited to even go shopping thats so not me. I get so frustrated when I pour my heart out in an email and I never see it post. So here goes... When I posted last, I was having trouble with lightheaded and dizziness. My dr thought I had " part-time depresssion " and wanted to give me a cat scan. I was not happy and have been to a different doctor. I also went to a nutritionist for the issue. After reviewing my eating, she was impressed that I have so many good things going for me: like eating 6 small meals, snacking on nuts, lots of veggies, etc. She said though that I wasn't eating enough carbs and suggested upping my grains and breads. I tried that and would feel terrible on the days I would have a sprouted grain muffin and oj for breakfast. So now, I have found I feel ok if I eat pure protein. I have fish sticks, chicken or jerky for breakfast. Ok, it doesn't sound so good I know. I have it with green tea and it sits ok with me, but even better, I don't feel like I am going to swoon. Anyone else have anything similar going on? I can eat sugar or carbs later in the day and they don't bother me like they do in the morning. I have also been tackling my low iron issue. The good news is that with suppliments, my iron level went from 37 to 52 in just 6 weeks. I take iron sulfide, liquid iron and raw liver extract. I thought anemia was to blame for my dizzyness, but I can't say I feel consistantly better. It fluctuates during the day, and that's why I think it is something to do with my food. I went on the Seasonal pill to cut my periods down to only 4 times a year to help with iron loss, but I seem to be cycling anyway. I will get ahold of my gyn and ask about that. I did get pretty hungry though. My weight loss has kind of stalled when I started grazing 24/7. The protein lately has helped curb those cravings. I am excited, I'm coming up on a year on July 6, and I have lost 100 lbs. Sure, others have lost more, but I'm feeling pretty good in my skin. I've even had a few people tell me that I have lost enough weight. I tell them I have another 80 lbs to go. I think it is just that nobody has seen me this small in so long. It is pretty cool. in LADr. R7/6/0625 min7 ft338/238 > > > _________________________________________________________________ > Hotmail to go? Get your Hotmail, news, sports and much more! Guest guest
,My heart goes out to you and your family over Kendrall's injuries. Just love him each and every day as I am sure you do. My daughter, Ellie, has a j-tube (tube directly in her intestines) for feeding and a g-tube which we keep "vented" at all times (she has delayed gastric emptying and her stomach needs to remain empty or she will throw up). She does not eat by mouth at all. My point in telling you this is that if you need any advice, etc., please let me know. We've been dealing with a lot with Ellie (she doesn't talk/walk) and have learned a ton.Just wanted to let you know I am here! Please visit her websites below, if you like!kk Kris Kovalcikmkovalci@...caringbridge.org/visit/elliegallery.mac.com/kovalciks/100016www.umdf.org On Jan 3, 2008, at 10:30 PM, Jo Blauer wrote: Jo here, myotomy buddy of a and . My husband and I took custody until September when he was returned to our daughter's care. Kendrell has brain damage, is blind in his left eye, his 10 broken ribs have healed, but he has a g-tube for feedings and all his medications. At 14 months of age he does not sit up without assistance, roll over, reach for toys, crawl, or baby talk. I also found a job shortly after Kendrell left our home, and am now the assistant manager of a goodwill store in our area. What a wonderful position for a bargain hunter like me! lol!Through it all I read every post, and often begin to reply before I hit cancel because I know there are others that can help more than I can.A special thank you to Maggie, , and Ann who all checked in to see how Kendrell was progressing.God bless. Guest guest
Hey Jo - good to hear from you. for your NCCP's, have you tried doing the low-dose antidepressants at all? I've been on 10mg of amitryptaline for about a year and a half now and it makes a HUGE difference for me. I still get spasms regularly but they seem to go away more easily and quickly (I'll take it!!) Might be worth a try - oh, and they really help me sleep better too. Of course, after next week - I shouldn't have spasms at all anymore - yipppeeeeee!! Hugs to Kendrell. When are you coming to my area to visit? you should come down in April/early May - nice weather - not so many tourists yet. Anytime you're ready, I'll be happy to play tour guide all I can. - in NC 7 days... > > Jo here, myotomy buddy of a and . My surgery was Dec > of 2005, and I do ok most of the time.
